Today I'm bringing you a story that continued from last season and has been a surprise within it. I've really found it captivating, especially because not everything is as it seems, so this will be my recommendation for this week.
Yomi no Tsugai (黄泉のツガイ)
Premiered in April of this year and still airing, with a total of 24 episodes; this supernatural action story is directed by Masahiro Andō, under the animation studio Bones Film. Its creator is Hiromu Arakawa, who also brought us the story of Fullmetal Alchemist.

The story introduces us to Higashi Village, where we meet Yuru, a talented young hunter, and his twin "sister," who is always kept locked away. His life takes a dramatic turn when a brutal attack destroys his home. He discovers that the woman he believed to be his sister was not, and that his real sister was among those attacking the village. This event forces him to descend from the mountain and realize that society had evolved into what we now know as modernity; in short, they lived isolated from the rest of the world.
There, she discovers the existence of the Tsugai, imposing and fearsome supernatural entities that respond only to her lineage of twins. With this discovery, plus the truth about her sister and parents, and other things besides, Yuru must learn to survive and unleash a power the world longs to control. Why are these twins so important and dangerous? What drove her sister to attack what was once their home?
Personal opinion
What kept me watching the story is the fact that it's actually set in modern times, and you want to know why these people chose to live that way and why his sister became the way she did. Basically, it's the secrets, the moments of tension and uncertainty that keep you reading. Plus, I found the action scenes to be quite good and fluid. The characters are well-developed, and Yuru isn't the kind of protagonist who's easily manipulated or swayed by morality. He knows the difference between right and wrong, but if his life or the lives of his loved ones are in danger, he's not afraid to point a gun and kill whoever is in his way.
I also like that, because we have that moral ambiguity, there isn't a completely pure side: the clans, the villagers, and the antagonists themselves all operate in a very realistic gray area. The characters' motivations are often driven by trauma, duty, or survival, which generates extremely complex interactions and unpredictable dynamics.
I feel the story handles the theme of duality very well; it's everywhere: in the twins, in the tsugai and the humans, in the village and the modern city, in truth and lies... It offers a subtle critique of how institutions and families manipulate new generations under the guise of "protection." Yuru and Asa are pawns on a much larger chessboard, and the underlying message addresses the need to break free from the toxic legacies of the past in order to forge one's own identity.
Positive points…
- Mystery and addictive plots: A complex conspiracy unfolds, always leaving you wanting more.
- Complex characters: There are no purely allegiances or cartoonish villains; the vast majority of characters have very real human motivations, traumas, and ethical dilemmas.
- Dynamic combat duos (The Tsugai): The combat system isn't limited to brute force; it relies on rules, strategy, and the relationship of trust or dependence between the master and their supernatural entity.
Negative points…
- Dense exposition pace at the beginning: Due to the large number of factions, rules regarding the Tsugai, and family secrets that are introduced quickly, the first few moments overwhelm you with so much information.
- Reliance on long-term development: Because the story is so focused on weaving a global mystery and a branching conspiracy, some subplots or questions take a while to resolve.

Yomi no Tsugai is captivating in many aspects, with an intriguing story and quite commendable visual choreography. It doesn't try to reinvent the shōnen wheel, but it executes its elements with a technical and narrative mastery almost unattainable for the average viewer; it's an intelligent work, with a fascinating world that expands organically.

Hoy vengo con una historia que continuó desde la temporada pasada y ha sido una sorpresa de la misma, realmente me ha resultado atractivo, más por el hecho de que no todo es lo que parece ser, así que esta será mi recomendación de esta semana.
Yomi no Tsugai (黄泉のツガイ)
Estrenada en abril de este año y que aún sigue en emisión, donde tendrá un total de 24 episodios; esta historia sobrenatural y de acción es dirigida por Masahiro Andō, bajo el estudio de animación Bones Film . Su creador es Hiromu Arakawa, quien también nos trajo la historia de Fullmetal Alchemist.
En cuanto a la trama…
La historia nos introduce a la Aldea Higashi, donde ahí conoceremos a Yuru, un joven talentoso en la caza y a su "hermana" gemela quién está siempre encerrada; su vida da un vuelco total cuando un ataque brutal destruye su hogar, enterándose que la creía que era su hermana no lo era y, entre los que atacan la aldea, estaba su verdadera hermana. Este suceso hace que baje de la montaña y comprendan que en realidad la sociedad había evolucionado, a lo que ahora conocemos como la modernidad; vivían aislados del resto del mundo en pocas palabras.
Allí descubre que existen los Tsugai, unas entidades sobrenaturales imponentes y de temible poder que responden únicamente a su linaje de gemelos. Con esto que ha descubierto, más la verdad de su hermana y sus padres y otras cosas más, Yuru debe aprender a sobrevivir y desatar un poder que el mundo anhela controlar ¿Por qué estos gemelos serán importantes y peligrosos? ¿Qué hizo que su hermana tomara la decisión de atacar a lo que fue su hogar?
Opinión personal
Lo que hizo que me quedara viendo la historia es el hecho de que, realmente es desarrollada en una época moderna, y quieres saber porque esas personas decidieron vivir así y porque su hermana se volvió de ese modo, básicamente son los secretos, los momentos de tensión e incertidumbres que hacen que continues la narrativa como tal; agregando que, las escenas de acción las considero bastante buenas y fluidas. Los personajes tienen buen desarrollo y que, Yuru no es el protagonista que se deja manipular fácilmente o se deja llevar por la moralidad de una, sabe distinguir entre lo bueno y lo malo, pero si su vida o la de los suyos corren peligro, no tiene miedo en apuntarles y matar a quién sea.
Me gusta también que, tenemos esa ambigüedad moral, no hay un bando totalmente puro: los clanes, los habitantes de la aldea y los propios antagonistas se mueven en una escala de grises muy realista. Las motivaciones de los personajes suelen estar impulsadas por el trauma, el deber o la supervivencia, lo que genera interacciones sumamente complejas y dinámicas impredecibles.
Siento que la historia maneja muy bien el tema de la dualidad, está en todo: en los gemelos, en los tsugai y los humanos, en la aldea y la ciudad moderna, la verdad y la mentira..., plantea una crítica sutil sobre cómo las instituciones y las familias manipulan a las nuevas generaciones bajo la excusa de la "protección". Yuru y Asa son peones en un tablero mucho más grande, y el mensaje subyacente aborda la necesidad de romper con los legados tóxicos del pasado para forjar la propia identidad.
Puntos positivos…
- Misterio y tramas adictivas: se construye una conspiración compleja que siempre te deja con ganas de más.
- Personajes con escala de grises: No hay bandos 100% puros ni villanos caricaturescos; la gran mayoría de los personajes tienen motivaciones humanas, traumas y matices éticos muy reales.
- Dúos de combate dinámicos (Los Tsugai): El sistema de combate no se limita a peleas de fuerza bruta, sino que depende de las reglas, la estrategia y la relación de confianza o dependencia entre el amo y su entidad sobrenatural.
