Hi, friends, it’s a pleasure to say hello. I hope you’re all doing great. Today I woke up very early, since my husband had to go to work in a town outside the city to do some tasks that would take him all day. As is to be expected on these long days, he asked me to make him a nice thermos of coffee to share with his coworkers.
Since I’d run out of the coffee I usually use—and because I always like to switch up brands to try new things—I decided to open a 200-gram package of Osole coffee that my husband had brought home to mix things up a bit. I don’t know exactly how much it cost because he bought it, but I’ll tell you right now that I would definitely buy it again—I really liked the flavor!
The morning, by the way, started off with its own little twist. We’re having a water issue in our neighborhood, and the water hadn’t come on yet that day. And you know, even though I keep a supply of bottled drinking water on hand, I always prefer to use the tap directly. While I was running a few quick errands around the house, around 7 a.m., the water came back on. What a relief! I quickly washed the coffee maker and got to work. To take with him on his trip, I lent my husband a Hive thermos I have—it’s a little bigger than the one he usually uses, which is perfect for sharing with the coworkers he’d be working with.
I have to confess that lately I’ve been a bit hesitant to try new brands. I recently bought a coffee that had been recommended to me and was very disappointed: it was way too weak for my taste. To even get a hint of flavor, I ended up using twice the usual amount, which meant I ran out of the package in record time. That kind of coffee is perfect for those who enjoy a nice, light “guayoyo”; but for me—who loves coffee with character, strong and well-concentrated—it definitely didn’t win me over.
So, with that little nagging doubt, I played it safe and made coffee using my “super-magic” measurements: four measures of water, three heaping metal spoonfuls of coffee, and two spoonfuls of sugar. To give you an idea of my secret, I use the same teaspoon to measure both ingredients, but I level off the sugar a little more, while I like my coffee to be nice and packed.
By the way, speaking of coffee, I’ve put a hold on buying more mugs for my collection for now because the space in my kitchen cabinet has gotten way too small. So I’m stoically waiting for a few of them to break so I can replace them little by little.
Another thing I’ve noticed lately is that Creole or artisanal coffee tends to be much more aromatic than commercial coffees. I don’t know if commercial coffees lose a bit of their intensity during the refining, roasting, or storage process, but I recently bought some Creole coffee, and the aroma filled my entire apartment in an incredible way. Even so, I loved the aroma and flavor of this Osole, and it passed the test with flying colors.
I’ll admit that lately I’ve been getting up a little late because I want to sleep as much as possible before the imminent return to school, since I’ve been going to bed pretty late at night. The problem is that when I wake up early—like today—falling back asleep becomes quite a challenge for me. That’s why I prefer to hold off a little and not drink this first cup of coffee right now, but wait for the second one, which is the one I truly enjoy at my own pace.
Since my husband drank practically everything I’d packed in the thermos, I’ll have to turn on the coffee maker again in a little while. Once I’m fully awake, I definitely plan to enjoy it with some pastries or little bread rolls. You know I love them; even though they say they’re bad for you, wheat-based products are my biggest weakness.
I have so many things to do this week, and I’m already planning them out. Of course, when I get down to them, I’ll be sipping a delicious cup of coffee to help me focus and make life a little sweeter.
