Hola, amigos.

Me he sumado a voluntariados y centros de apoyo. .
Hi, friends. Today I feel a deep need to say a couple of things, to appeal to people’s conscience, and to vent in the face of the tragedy my country, Venezuela, is going through. And I’m doing this because it’s clear that not all of us are affected by it in the same way.
It might sound radical, and mind you, I’m not demanding that everyone have the same level of maturity or grief.
But logging into Hive to read utter nonsense about how “I had such-and-such a beer with my friends on a girls’ day out” or “I went shopping at such-and-such a store”—seriously—is just embarrassing. I understand that not everyone on this platform is Venezuelan and that the tragedy doesn’t affect them directly, but seeing that indifference in the very creators who breathe the same air as us is simply disappointing.
I’m going to sound harsh, but folks, we’re facing an unprecedented natural disaster that morally obliges us to mourn and show solidarity. We’re talking about entire families who are suffering today, who lost their loved ones, who saw a lifetime’s worth of savings collapse in seconds and were left on the street. Fortunately, I haven’t lost any close relatives in this double earthquake that struck the country, but the pain for my country consumes me.
That sense of helplessness has driven me to help from where I am, with what I have and what I can gather. I’ve donated my clothes, my children’s clothes, and my belongings—even things I wouldn’t normally consider giving away—because I know those people have lost absolutely everything. I’ve joined volunteer efforts and support centers. My oldest son and my friend from Hive Monagas, @cybersk8, are there, working tirelessly at ground zero as one of the many heroes without capes, driven solely by pure compassion and love for their homeland.
And in the meantime, we have to swallow our outrage at seeing other Venezuelans “celebrating” the weekend because, thanks to what happened, they don’t have to go to work. Disoriented children, miraculously rescued, without a family to hold them because they were trapped under the rubble—and some people are out partying. It makes my blood boil to see Hive creators uploading their “lifestyle” nonsense—posting their workout routines, sharing recipes, the typical “a day in my life” video, “join me on a tour of such-and-such mall,” or posts celebrating the last day of school and graduation preparations, all in an attempt to monetize, when as a country we’re bleeding to death.
I fully understand that Hive is a platform where entertainment abounds, but for Venezuelans themselves to prioritize entertaining others over showing solidarity and launching a strong internal campaign on the platform to tackle this catastrophe is unheard of.
Where are those Hive communities that were funded to the point of exhaustion and where everything boiled down to shows, celebrity gossip, and photos? Why aren’t they organized? If they’re all neighbors and know each other, why haven’t they set up a proper relief center? I know many communities have fallen apart, like Hive Monagas here in my state, but at least on an individual level, some of us are doing our part. We have to help the country with what we have, even if we don’t have much to spare. And I know I’m going to be attacked for speaking these truths, but I couldn’t care less.
Just yesterday we commemorated National Journalists’ Day, but in my heart there is only mourning. There was nothing to celebrate; I’m overwhelmed by the pain of the mothers mourning their dead and the heavy burden of my colleagues who have to go out and cover this news with broken hearts, fulfilling their duty to report. And, without meaning to preach, it makes me incredibly angry to see ignorant people with rotten souls politicizing this tragedy. Did the earthquake ask for a political ID from those it buried? There are far too many people posting nonsense in videos, complaining without lifting a finger, getting in the way just to score political points. Those who help a little get in the way the least.

I acknowledge that Hive’s top brass has set up a fund to help. But let’s be honest: with so many of us Venezuelans here, the response should have been overwhelming. It’s ironic—and even somewhat ironic—how brazenly votes and funding poured in for contests, Formula 1 races, meetups, Pizza Days, calisthenics activities, and other events promoting the so-called “crypto adoption”; yet when it really counts, hardly any funds are allocated to help Venezuela in a tragedy of this magnitude.
Recording my latest TikTok video was incredibly difficult; the words wouldn’t come, and I couldn’t hold back the tears. A national mourning tears you apart in an indescribable way when your country truly hurts you. In fact, I haven’t posted anything since that video; my last message was a call for national unity, and that’s as far as I went—out of pure respect for the mourning. But of course, there’s never a shortage of the usual “nonsense-spouters.” I watch with disgust as, during election seasons, posts pour in cursing the opposing side, racking up massive likes, and fueling hatred. Seeing those same people today—at a time when Venezuela is in mourning—posting nonsense confirms to me just how rotten they are inside. And I say this with all the firmness and indignation I feel.
Anyway, it seems like we’re living in parallel universes. They talk about their love for Hive, but where is the love for Venezuela beyond the post meant to make money? It’s pure falsehood. I’m Venezuelan, and I firmly tell you: pure falsehood and nonsense. With this post, I’m not looking for applause or sympathy; I hope to raise real awareness. Hopefully, after this, real help will begin to flow from the communities, and that support campaign will take shape.
We know that one tree doesn’t make a forest, but together we can cast a great shadow to shelter all those who need us. The reconstruction of this country is just beginning, and support is needed from absolutely everyone. We think differently—that’s true—but we can do so much more. I’m doing my part; I hope that you, who are reading this, will have the empathy to do the same, because there are more of us who are good.
