[TV] MOUSETRAP:When the victim becomes the villain

Have you ever watched a movie where the victim turns to the villain?

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog.

Allow me to introduce you to “MOUSETRAP.”

The 2026 Korean mystery thriller. A movie with so much suspense and plot twist. At some point, I started questioning myself if I really understood what I was watching, especially the relationship between

“Moon-jae and No-ja."

There are dramas you watch and they make you fall in love with the romantic scenes, while some we just watch to relax our mind. But MOUSETRAP came with something different, something huge and if you're a curious cat like me you will understand that this movie is different from the usual romantic drama. The movie started with a premise that captures your heart and each episode leaves a twisted scene that you can't help but want to know what happened in the next episode.

Imagine staying hidden for 3 years, only to wake up one day and discover your identity no longer belongs to you, your phone doesn't recognise you r fingerprint anymore, you suddenly become broke financially and the person impersonating you is living your life so well and better.

That's the situation Je Moon-jae found himself in.

At first it seems like an ordinary impersonation case but during the process of finding himself it becomes more complicated and that was how he crossed paths with his nightmare

”No-ja.”

A dangerous loan shark that no one would want to mess with or have on their tail. Je Moon-jae has an unfinished business with No-ja in the past. But somehow Moon-jae was able to get No-ja in an uneasy agreement. No-ja needs his money while Moon-jae needs help and protection.

If you've watched this movie you will understand why I had so much interest in these 2 characters.

Yeah! They came from different worlds yet they depend on each other in ways they couldn't have imagined.

THE SUSPENSE: In the beginning, I felt so sad for Je Moon-jae. He looks confused and desperate to know who would have hated him so musch to steal his identity from him.

So we were all eager to know the truth and rooting for him to discover the truth too. And that is how the writer of this movie got an upper hand.

Because it didn't give us the main picture, instead we've concluded the movie in our head and believe what Je Moon-jae presents to us. And that was just the beginning of the movie

You will all agree with me that in many dramas we connect so well with the main characters. From their struggles, fear even when they get hurt in the movie we become sad or angry.

And that becomes the audience's weakness. Because I personally was so interested in knowing who “THE RAT” was and why it took over Je Moon-jae’s identity

Then different scenes started coming in and it became more and more complicated. Je Moon-jae, who we thought was the victim, was not completely innocent.

THE RAT AND THE COMPLICATED IDENTITY

The mystery behind the identity of this particular character plays a strong role in this movie.

The movie was inspired by a Korean folktale about a rat that ate someone's discarded fingernails and transformed into a human.

It sounds scary because it transforms something so ordinary into a threat. Imagine someone who does not just look exactly like you but has the power to convince people that they are you. That is so difficult to prove right?

It's so weird and questionable to imagine a person trying to become someone else that they lose themselves along the line. This question is important because of the history between Je Moon-jae and Seo Yu-min.

Because of the complicated relationship from their past. It reveals jealousy, ambition, resentment and the urge to become a better person.

And just like that the movie shifted from recovering a stolen identity to how the destruction started and who was responsible.

Je Moon-jae's situation encourages sympathy, but the revelation of his past forced us to question if he was indeed innocent.

Being a better person is not a wrong idea but there is a line between admiration and envy. There is a difference between being inspired by someone's success and believing you deserve their life.

THE REVELATIONS

The revelation in this movie left us with a lot of questions especially about our judgement as humans.

Do we now hate Je Moon-jae?

Can someone refuse to take responsibility for their actions because they are genuinely scared?

The drama left us to wrestle with all these questions. And it thought us that, understanding why someone did what they did does not justify their actions. They will have to take responsibility.

THE ENDING AND THE PRICE FOR NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY

The end part shows the conflict between Je Moon-jae and Seo Yu-min which reveals the truth and changes how we understand the entire movie during a confrontation.

Seo Yu-min is connected to the truth about Je Moon-jae's past and the confrontation reveals and forces an open question…

“Can we escape from our past after destroying the only evidence or someone that leads to the truth?”

“Can someone claim back their identity that was built on deception?

MY VERDICT I enjoyed this movie because it doesn't just understand the real meaning of mystery but also how powerful it challenges the audience's assumptions and judgement.

The psychological turn of the movie is what gives the story its depth.

And it also teaches that identity is very important. Do not judge or believe people based on what they tell you. We can still investigate and find out the truth without allowing sympathy blindfold us.

I feel bad for No-ja for not knowing the truth about Je Moon-jae until the end. And trust me you will need to be very patient while watching this movie as its mysteries unfold.

I would like to know your opinion about this movie in the comment section. Thank you so much for stopping by. Have a lovely week ahead.
