Greetings to all the chefs in this community, as well as to those who aren’t chefs but visit us—though I know some of you do what we share here, trying out and appreciating our art, because cooking is an art form too.
As for me, in addition to crafts—which are one of my passions—I also love to cook. There’s a wide variety of things you can make here, from savory dishes, soups, and stews to cakes and sweets, including cookies—especially when you have kids at home who love snacks, and I find it works better for me to make them myself because they last longer.
These days, social media shows us lots of cookie recipes—there’s something for everyone’s tastes and budget—like these little cookies, which I made since I had all the ingredients on hand.
🍪🍪🍪Ingredients: 🍪🍪🍪
*2 cups all-purpose flour. *1 cup powdered milk. *1/2 cup sugar. *100 g margarine. *1 egg. *1 teaspoon baking powder. *1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
🍪🍪🍪 Let’s make the cookies: 🍪🍪🍪
Most cookies are made from dough; for these cookies, prepare the dough as follows:
*In a bowl—the kind you use for making cakes or pancakes, preferably a plastic one—add the margarine and sugar.
*Using a wooden spatula—a must-have in every kitchen—I mix the first ingredients until the sugar is completely dissolved; you might still be able to feel a tiny bit of it.
*Now add the egg and the black or white vanilla—this is essential and can’t be left out—and beat the mixture again until neither is visible.
*Gather the wheat flour, milk, and baking powder, then combine them with the flour.
*At this stage, gradually add the milk and flour using folding motions until no lumps remain.
*Finally, you can finish kneading the dough with your hands until it forms a ball.
*Some doughs can be refrigerated for a while, depending on their consistency.
*While the dough is resting, I get the baking sheet, grease it with margarine, and then dust it with all-purpose flour.
*I measure out the dough and weigh it first, just to get a rough idea of how many cookies I can make. I made them 10 grams each, which is why it’s also helpful to have a kitchen scale—it’s a big help.
*I rolled the dough into small balls, flattened them between my palms—just as if I were making arepas—and placed them on the baking sheet.
*Once the cookies were on the baking sheet, I used a fork to make a pattern on them as decoration.
*Preheat the oven to 180°C, or a little less—everyone knows how their oven works, since they’re not all the same—and bake for 10 to 15 minutes. Don’t wait for them to turn golden brown, since the milk and flour will keep them white.
*Once the cookies are ready, take them out of the oven. Give the baking sheet a few light taps to loosen them. Let them cool before storing them.
*As I mentioned, these are for snacks and to take with me—aside from the ones I eat at home.
*To get started, find a bag sealer and some small bags to put the cookies in. Put 4 cookies in each bag, seal them, and they’re all packed and ready to go. The stickers are missing, but I haven’t printed them yet—I’ll do that for the next batch.
*Perfect for kids’ lunchboxes for school.
