Sword Art Online is one of the anime I love. It's known as one average anime and I agree with many points haters say about it. I still love SAO.
The first arc is well-liked by fandom, but the arcs after that which happen in different games are not liked as much. The second arc: ALO, is very different than first and it has one of the worst villains in anime. GGO arc is better but it also set in a very different game than the arcs before.
There's also the harem aspect of Sword Art Online: Kirito already has a girlfriend. Why add all these girls to the mix?
Luckily, the current arc: Alicization is better. It may not be the best anime ever, but for those who liked the first arc this arc deserves a watch.

Kirito takes part in an experiment using a new full dive device. He's sent to underworld, a virtual world that's undistinguishable from reality inhabited by virtual people with a very advanced AI. His real world memories were blocked in the experiment.
After some incident in the real world Kirito is sent to the world again with his real memories intact. Figuring that something is wrong in the experiment, he looks for a way to contact the real world and learns more about this world.
Kirito befriends Eugeo one of the AI, and takes on a journey to return to reality.
For someone who liked almost every arc (and the movie) of SAO. I think his arc is the best one yet.
There's a bit of mystery that unfolds with each episode. Kirito is a bit more mature than before, and there's less of the harem element that I think dragged the series down. It's replaced with a friendship between two boys and their journey together which is kind of cute~
The AI of this arc and the reason of their creation (no spoilers) is very interesting and made me think: What if all of us are artificial intelligence people in someone's PC?
The mystery of this arc while not major (and lost some of its charm as I knew more about it through the episodes) is well written and interesting.
I don't know how many episodes are left in this season. Still though, I'm happy that SAO is back strong again!
