They say that God makes us and the devil brings us together. This is the case of this classic horror movie called The Craft or Joven brujas in the Spanish version that, as its name suggests, is about a group of young girls who have a fascination for the dark arts and, once the coven is completed, they will start their Machiavellian plans typical of witches.

I couldn't not talk about it because being from 1996, it was part of my childhood and yes, I saw it about 20 times, the truth is I lost count but I always liked this movie a lot and even, there was a time when I wanted to be like them (Don't imitate what you see on TV).

The teenage life of the late 90's along with all the typical problems that comes with it, added to a strong connection with the occult, give life to this movie making it one of the most emblematic in its genre.

Dicen que Dios nos hace y el diablo nos junta. Este es el caso de esta película clásica del cine de horror titulada The Craft o Jóvenes brujas en la versión en español que , como su nombre lo indica, trata sobre un grupo de jovencitas que tienen una fascinación por las artes oscuras y, una vez completado el aquelarre darán inicio a sus planes maquiavélicos típicos de brujas.

No podía no hablar de ella ya que al ser del año 96, formó parte de mi infancia y si, la vi como 20 veces, la verdad perdí la cuenta pero siempre me gustó mucho esta película e incluso, hubo una época donde quería ser como ellas (No imiten lo que ven en la TV).

La vida adolescente de finales de los 90 junto a todos los problemas típicos que eso conlleva sumado a una fuerte conexión con el ocultismo, dan vida a esta película convirtiéndola en una de las mas emblemáticas en su género.

 The movie is one of my favorites because in its time, it marked a whole generation, especially those who liked to consume this type of productions. I remember that once, we tried to do several of the spells that were shown in it like the one with the board or the one with the hair (Obviously, it didn't work) but it was funny until you realize that everything started as a joke but it became strange.

The 3 teenage girls of the original group start out as white witches until little by little , the power starts to consume them and when that happens, the heart becomes corrupted and dark, you just want to see to your desires and impulses at any cost even if that means, sacrificing the other. This was developed very well in the character of Nancy (My favorite he,he,he,he).

La película es de mis favoritas ya que en su tiempo, marcó a toda una generación sobre todo a quienes gustaban de consumir este tipo de producciones. Me acuerdo que una vez, intentamos hacer varios de los hechizos que en ella se mostraban como el de la tabla o el del cabello (Obviamente , no funcionó) pero era en un punto gracioso hasta que te das cuenta que todo iniciaba como un chiste pero se tornaba extraño.

Las 3 adolescentes del grupo original comienzan como brujas blancas hasta que poco a poco , el poder las empieza a consumir y cuando eso pasa, el corazón se corrompe y se vuelve oscuro, solo quieres velar por tus deseos e impulsos a costa de lo que sea aunque eso implique, sacrificar al otro. Esto se desarrolló muy bien en el personaje de Nancy (Mi favorita je,je,je).

From the moment she first appears on screen, you know something is not right in this woman's head but, you give her a chance. She totally steals the movie with everything she does and how she makes the others her lapdogs who only have to obey her. She is authoritarian, intelligent, beautiful, charismatic, passionate, cruel (although at the beginning she seems like a good and normal person when she receives Sara as another sister), selfish, interested and quite crazy, but we still liked her character a lot, especially because she was the one who had the most development during the whole movie. You either love her or hate her, there is no middle ground ha. I think most of us reading this, if we were in Nancy's place, if we had power overnight, we would go crazy like her and fall into the clutches of arrogance.

The other girls, they play their role too. Two are her lapdogs who only obey her orders without hesitation, sinking with her little by little (Although it seems like a true friendship at the beginning. I liked how they played with that) and, this Sara, the typical of the group who knows that something is not right with her new group of friends and tries to stay away.

Desde que aparece por primera vez en pantalla, sabes que algo no anda bien en la cabeza de esta mujer pero, le das una oportunidad. Se roba la película totalmente con todo lo que hace y como hace de las demás, sus perritos falderos que solo deben obedecerla. Es autoritaria, inteligente, bella, carismática, apasionada , cruel (Aunque al principio parece una persona buena y normal al recibir a Sara como una hermana más) , egoísta , interesada y bastante loca pero, igual nos gustó mucho su personaje sobre todo porque fue el que mas desarrollo tuvo durante toda la película. O la amas o la odias, no hay punto medio ja. Yo creo que la mayoría que lee esto, si estuviéramos en el lugar de Nancy, si tuviéramos poder de la noche a la mañana, nos volveríamos locos como ella y caeríamos en las garras de la soberbia.

Las demás chicas, cumplen su función tambien. Dos son sus perritos falderos que solo acatan sus órdenes sin titubear hundiéndose con ella poco a poco (Aunque parece una amistad verdadera en un inicio. Me gustó como jugaron con eso) y , esta Sara, la típica del grupo que sabe que algo no anda bien con su nuevo grupo de amigas e intenta alejarse.

Another point to mention are the special effects. Many criticized this, which bordered on the absurd, but for me, for the time, they are well done. The truth is that I really liked all the added effects that they did because this gave the touch of horror that was missing at the beginning of the film where everything looks pink until it turns black. Without those effects I don't think the movie would have had the same impact on me. I really had nightmares, imagine, I was a child when I saw it.

All excellent actresses who managed to get into their roles very well (especially Nancy). You really felt that they were witches and that any of your schoolmates could be witches too.

Otro punto a tocar son los efectos especiales. Muchos criticaron esto , que rozaba lo absurdo pero para mi, por la época, están bien logrados. La verdad me gustó mucho todo el agregado de efectos que hicieron ya que esto , le dió el toque de horror que faltaba al inicio de la película donde todo parece rosa hasta que se tiñe de negro. Sin esos efectos yo creo que la película no me hubiera causado el mismo impacto. De veras, tuve pesadillas imagínense, era un niña cuando la vi.

Todas excelentes actrices que lograron meterse muy bien en su papel (Sobre todo Nancy). Realmente sentías que eran brujas y que cualquiera de tus compañeros del colegio, podía serlo tambien.

The Craft , a cult movie totally recommendable if you like a classic piece of horror cinema. I, already have my coven of witches after so many years, I will not name them, they know who they are but the question is who is Nancy? ha,ha,ha,ha. Greetings and thanks for reading me.
