The project was announced in January 2019, celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' rooftop concert. I never would have imagined that Peter Jackson would be behind such a project, however the surprise is very pleasant. The production used film restoration techniques developed for Jackson's They Shall Not Grow Old, to clean up the Beatles' 16mm recordings from scratch. The product is a miniseries of 468 minutes in where we can enjoy our protagonists. For more than two decades Jackson has been at the forefront of these restoration technologies. During production, he restored over 55 hours of outtakes and another 150 hours of music to develop a less sensational narrative. The documentary series can be excessive; but it almost feels like the solution to all the fan theories, debates, and discussions that have been spun for decades. For a fan, every little detail, every gesture, counts.
The Beatles: Get Back is a unique experience, it feels like living those moments together with them. Enjoy how the verses of the song Don't Let Me Down belonged to another song, and how everything is molded to the version we know. The series was created in collaboration with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the widows of John Lennon (Yoko Ono) and George Harrison (Olivia Harrison). It's great how key points of friction between the members are clarified. I think it's an incredible opportunity to connect with them, to learn a little to see them in a different way. I wish you all a prosperous week and read you in the comments.
