Parásitos no es la típica película basada en las luchas de las clases sociales, en esa idea que contempla a los ricos y los pobres como dos ángulos diferentes de la sociedad, más bien, ridiculiza este concepto al mezclar esos dos ámbitos aparentemente diferentes como la parte de un todo, una mega estructura donde cada pieza encaja de lo más bajo a lo más alto, como un efecto dominó acuñado en pilares. Si una pieza cae, las demás también caerán con ella.
Parasite is not the typical film based on the struggles of social classes, on that idea that contemplates the rich and the poor as two different angles of society, rather, it ridicules this concept by mixing these two apparently different areas as part of a whole, a mega structure where each piece fits from the lowest to the highest, like a domino effect wedged into pillars. If one piece falls, the others will also fall with it.
Tal metáfora se personifica en la familia Kim, una estirpe de 4 integrantes que viven en un semisótano de mala muerte, rodeados de basura, borrachones y el agua fétida de las alcantarillas. Ellos personifican la fundación de la torre que sostiene al resto de la sociedad, ese pilar fundamental del edificio al que le toca la tierra y la oscuridad, y que siempre permanecerá ignorado y opacado por las piezas de más arriba, aquellas que solo brindan una estética vacía y casi innecesaria.
Such a metaphor is personified in the Kim family, a lineage of 4 members who live in a seedy basement, surrounded by garbage, drunks and the fetid water of the sewers. They personify the foundation of the tower that supports the rest of society, that fundamental pillar of the building touched by the earth and darkness, and which will always remain ignored and overshadowed by the pieces above, those that only provide an aesthetic empty and almost unnecessary.
La suerte de esta familia desdichada la conlleva a sobrevivir de unas cuantas monedas para costear lo importante, sin oportunidad de lujos o comodidades. A pesar de que han sobrevivido entre la inmundicia, cada uno de los Kim tiene una necesidad dramática en común: Salir de aquella miseria y de aquel hueco ignorado para igualar la estética de las piezas más altas de la sociedad.
The luck of this unfortunate family leads her to survive on a few coins to pay for what is important, without the opportunity for luxuries or comforts. Although they have survived amid the filth, each of the Kim has a dramatic need in common: to get out of that misery and that ignored hole to match the aesthetics of the highest pieces of society.
Tal deseo se les cumple como por arte de magia. En un par de escenas la familia Kim logra infiltrarse en el círculo de la adinerada familia de los Park mediante mentiras y estafas. Ya no están en aquel lugar podrido y estrecho con olor a huevo podrido, ahora disfrutan de las comodidades más exquisitas. Grandes jardines, una mansión ventilada, comida en abundancia y una familia demasiada ingenua de la cual se aprovechan con mucha facilidad, todo a cambio de unas cuantas falsificaciones. Este fuerte mensaje aclara el oportunismo y vanidad de una manera espléndida. Los Kim deseaban vivir como ricos, estar despreocupados como ricos, ser felices como ricos, y lo habían logrado después de varías desfachateces. ¿El fin justifica los medios? ¿Podemos aprovecharnos de alguien que se aprovecha de nosotros?
Such a wish is fulfilled as if by magic. In a couple of scenes, the Kim family manages to infiltrate the circle of the wealthy Park family through lies and scams. They are no longer in that rotten and narrow place with the smell of rotten eggs, now they enjoy the most exquisite comforts. Large gardens, a ventilated mansion, food in abundance, and an overly naive family who are easily taken advantage of, all in exchange for a few fakes. This strong message clarifies opportunism and vanity in a splendid way. The Kims wanted to live like rich, be carefree like rich, be happy like rich, and they had succeeded after various impudence. The end justifies the means? Can we take advantage of someone who takes advantage of us?
El propio nombre de la película saca a relucir el lado más oscuro de una sociedad ultrajada de todas las maneras posibles. Vemos como los Kim, o más bien el agente invasor, va invadiendo el cómodo cuerpo del Huésped, personificado por la familia Park. Lentamente los van devorando en sus engaños, pero, a la vez, hay otro mensaje de trasfondo. Los Park, escondidos bajo una cara ingenua, son parásitos mucho peores en un huésped mucho más grande, porque ellos consumen y devoran bajo la ley de narcicismo y la soberbia. Entonces, nos encontramos con una batalla de parásitos devorándose los unos con los otros en una guerra sin tregua.
The very name of the film brings out the darker side of an outraged society in every possible way. We see how the Kim, or rather the invading agent, is invading the comfortable body of the Guest, personified by the Park family. Slowly they are devouring them in their deceptions, but, at the same time, there is another background message. The Park hidden under a naive face are much worse parasites on a much larger host, because they consume and devour under the law of narcissism and pride. Then, we find ourselves with a battle of parasites devouring each other in a relentless war.
La ética y la moral quedan enterradas en el baúl, y ya no hay ninguna muestra de humanidad ni siquiera en los Kim. Convivir con los Park los ha convertido en personas egocéntricas. Al ver la película pensé mucho en ese concepto del “solo importo yo, los demás me valen un bledo”. Mirar la manera tan nefasta en que los Kim se fueron infiltrando en la familia Park bajo mentiras y engaños sacó en mí más de una sonrisa. De una manera satírica la película nos muestra lo egoístas que podemos ser cuando solo pensamos en nosotros mismos, o, en palabras más duras “cuando dejamos que el mundo se pudra aun pudiendo salvarlo”.
Ethics and morals are buried in the trunk, and there is no longer any sign of humanity even in the Kim. Living with the Park has made them self-centered. When I saw the film, I thought a lot about that concept of "I only matter, the others are worth a damn to me." Watching the nefarious way in which the Kim infiltrated the Park family under lies and deceptions brought out more than a smile from me. In a satirical way the film shows us how selfish we can be when we only think of ourselves, or, in harsher words, “When we let the world rot even though we can save it”.
En parásitos convergen esos duros contrastes entre dos sociedades contrapuestas. Por un lado, la familia Kim que anhela una vida mejor, más cómoda y más justa. En cambio, los Park solo orientan sus ambiciones a destacar por encima de los demás, tal vez con principios y valores, pero con un egoísmo palpable por donde quiera que lo mires. Ambas familias ambicionan, desean, anhelan aunque en circunstancias diferentes. En pocas palabras, mientras unos sufren porque no hay comida en su alacena, otros lloran porque el auto último modelo que les regalaron es de color azul y no rojo como lo querían.
In parasites these stark contrasts converge between two opposing societies. On the one hand, the Kim family who yearn for a better, more comfortable and more just life. Instead, the Park only guides their ambitions to stand out above the rest, perhaps with principles and values, but with a palpable selfishness wherever you look at it. Both families ambition, desire, yearn although in different circumstances. In short, while some suffer because there is no food in their cupboards, others cry because the latest model car they were given is blue and not red as they wanted it to be.
Parásitos es una película que rompe algunos convencionalismos de las clases sociales, usando el humor negro, el suspenso y el horror para matizar este concepto. Su brillante guión y dirección la destacan como una historia diferente y hermosamente realista, hecho que la llevó a ganar 4 premios Óscar de la academia.
