When was the last time you lost yourself in an audiovisual production and were totally consumed by it? It is satisfying to watch a material and feel that the content transmitted rejoices you; it doesn't matter if the story is fiction or real, but that it is revolutionary to live the experience to the fullest. It is likely that others do not feel the same for the selected audiovisual plot; on the other hand, it is enough the personal process in connecting that is of joy in wanting more and at the same time fear because it does not end as expected, it is a risk to be assumed and I loved it when watching the 5 seasons in three weeks of the series The Last Kingdom.
In 2015 arises this television series of action, drama, fiction and history genre; but my encounter with this film series were now when the fifth season arises and I loved it, many aspects that made me be at my maximum point of satisfaction with the story. This series is an adaptation of a novel by writer Bernard Cornwell, the story narrates the life of a Saxon noble boy who is kidnapped by Danes and struggles during adulthood between the beliefs of those who protected him, recovering his past and loyalty to a king. The plot is carried by producer and screenwriter Stephen Butchard, elegantly building the historical milestone with adaptations; it chronicles the presence of the Danish Vikings in the territory of Britain during the Wessex Empire commanded by King Alfred (The Great). The character Uhtred is an English warrior and at the same time possesses the Danish pagan impetus to recover the land that was stolen from him by a relative when he was a child, this is the reason to decide to recover the destiny.

The images and photographs depict medieval life, where darkness is used in favor or in opposition; the open fields, plains, mountains and sea invite you to enjoy nature and the strategic value to take the land or be the scene of war; in addition, the generally rustic and elegant scenery informs you of the status of the characters. Another attractive point is the costumes for the moment, the sparse, simple, somber, delicate and protective identify the cultures and social status of the wearer. The intro of the series is about a synthesis and a map that is consumed, accompanied by loud music and the raised voice highlighting the story. Not to mention that the special effects and sound effects of swords, axes, screams, fights, rain, abuse, horse gallops and other violent actions make your skin crawl and you feel anguish.
The whole plot has the historical argument that teaches you about geographical movement, war strategies, economic and emotional agreements imposed; ambition, intrigue, power and integrity are pillars of the story that Uhtred assumes to serve the king due to a promise in exchange for freedom. There are heated debates between Nordic Gods and a unique God, a lifestyle wrapped in beliefs and religion that wish to dominate over the other, until finding the harmony of balance and respect to coexist. The language of the story, eloquent dialogues with arguments of strategies, power, metaphors, gentilisms, romance, divergent thoughts and a phrase that is a line in every season mentioned by Uhtred of Bebbanburg "Destiny is everything".

Let me tell you that for a series to make an impact, it must have a credible acting cast to shape the experience. During the timeline of each season characters emerge and disappear, there was quality acting. Each well delivered performance leads you to respect, empathize and be annoyed by the roles that are executed with integrity; although there was only one actor that I didn't like at the end when he escalates the evil behavior, but it didn't affect the plot at all. Mentioning everyone would not finish, so, I will highlight the role of 4 protagonists; the first, Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon), warrior, faithful to his actions and words; determined, loving and strategist Saxon Danish, who is the means to consolidate a unique kingdom being the hero of the film. There is also the priest or father Beocca (Ian Hart) magnificent performance, a man who knows the use of the word, attached to his faith and godfather of Uhtred, friends to discuss and then reconcile with new tactics of wars because he believes in Uhtred.
Two other talents, King Alfred (David Dawson) a strong king, use of slow and impotent speech that I liked because there was wisdom, inflection and benevolence. He is a respectable leader, who knows what he wants and has Uhtred's knowledge; although he is a king who observes and rebukes the warrior's conduct, as he is a pagan man, recognized by Danish Vikings. Nevertheless, Uhtred is the piece to structure the kingdom of England. Also, the production has Brida (Emily Cox), a Viking friend and partner of Uhtred, who does not reject their culture, defends it, respects the friend, they fight together and against each other, until he loses his mind, a woman leader, warrior, passionate and vengeful, really fascinated me, I went from loving her to hating her to love her again.
Why should you watch The Last Kingdom? It is a series that explains a historical phenomenon about lands fought over by Vikings and Saxons; besides interesting in presenting a warrior man who battles between different streams of being, taught by Danish culture and born noble, who is the purpose of forming England. Uhtred navigates through repeated betrayals, but many believe in him to overcome obstacles that make him feared and respected; in the different seasons there is a sensitive and determined man to reach his own destiny which is the lands of Northumbria and fulfill the dream of King Alfred. In the same way, the series keeps you focused, with new plots in the plot and even makes you feel the journey and the feelings that are transmitted without having to cry.
