"Black Cat, White Cat” by Emir Kusturica, to this day is probably the funniest comedy I ever watched. When I'm really fed up with everything and need some comfort I'm just play this movie - I do not know any other movie that is more affirmative and full of love for life like "Black Cat, White Cat”.
"What a wonderful life!" - Destanov cries on the river. "Old lady, I'm dead in the ass!" - screams to Sujka, a perky old man who escaped few minutes ago from the hospital bed. The scene in which Destanov grandson Zare with the group of musicians sneaks into hospital to see him and help him escape has already entered the iconic canon and is probably the most recognisable part of this film:
But there are more great moments here. You can even pick them up, although those with music in the background always squeezes the throat, hypnotize, seduce. It's enough to recall the painfully beautiful scene from the "Time of the Gypsies" from "Ederlezi" in the version of Goran Bregović or Grace (Lili Taylor) playing on the accordion "Streets of Cairo" in full sun in front of the house, with an inseparable cigarette in the mouth of the Arizona Dream.
I have not seen all of Kusturica's films to this day and this is the result of a conscious decision - I just do not want to wake up one day and say that I do not have any more to watch.
