Charming. This is the best word that describes the new version of the adventures of Spider-man. After the great shows, in which the heroes stake was the existence of the whole world, the creators give us a break. We descend from the universe conflict to deal with really important matters. What is the saving of the universe and half of its population in relation to the biggest challenge a young person can face. Tell the girl that he likes her? Exactly. We all feel that chasing Thanos on different planets is a easy peasy compared to this view. Post contains spoilers if you have not seen other MCU movies.
Spider-Man: Far from Home, theoretically it has a super heroic element, but it is definitely more about a school trip. On which almost life and death is issue who should sit next to whom in a plane or bus, where the future of the whole relationship can decide whether the couple will decide to borrow binoculars in the opera together. It must be admitted that this portrait of rested youth on vacation leaves the creators of the film perfectly. The heroes visit the next capitals, and Peter Parker is more interested in MJ than a fight with opponents, a classmate who would like to say about his feelings. His plan to finally make a confession is almost as complicated as plans to save the world from Thanos. That's why our hero has nothing to do but pretend he did not get a phone call from Nick Fury, leave the costume at home and go where in his teenage life things really interesting can happen.
Here, the creators play one of those elements of building Spider-Man who always worked best. Unlike Iron Man, Captain America or the Black Panther, our hero has a private life, everyday life and identity which he does not reveal to anyone. Which means that saving the world may not suit him in holiday plans. Besides, being a teenager, he does not necessarily know if he wants to save the world full time. This thread works so well that it introduces to the super heroism an element of everyday life and more importantly a choice. In addition, we are talking about a teenager who is difficult to force him to give up the opportunity to gain any everyday experience for hard work, which is the fight against evil. Perhaps that is why Spider-man is a favorite hero for many, because he is much closer to us - if Iron Man does not have to worry about money and maintenance, while Captain America just knows that he must serve his homeland and have no other life, Spiderman is exactly in this situation in which we would find ourselves if tomorrow we were bitten by a radioactive spider. Rescuing the world? Cool but I want to watch the show with my husband in the evening, and on Tuesday at 2 am I have a meeting at work where I have to be.
Another thing is that in this charming and light history about the holidays interrupted by the small end of the world, Iron Man appears. After the events from the previous parts, we can observe how the cult of this hero is growing, the cult that the film itself puts into question. In fact, it shows us in a quite intelligent way that this man, ready for the highest dedication, left behind not only a completely positive legacy. Another thing - the movie shows how toxic was the relation of Iron Man or more Tony Stark with Peter Parker. Here Stark fished out a boy from Queens, armed, engaged in a big conflict and left with such a sense of duty, which should not actually be dropped on a 16-year-old. The more we see how Peter tries to live up to the legacy that Stark left him, the more we understand that in the great plan of Iron Man, there were many gaps and many losers. The film, moreover, suggests that the world of genius, playboy, millionaire, philanthropist and super hero was full of people who felt themselves lost and rejected. In the eyes of young Peter Park, he created an image that can not be matched. And which, in total, a young boy should never try to equal. But to say it, Stark either ran out of time or idea how to do it.
As you know, Spider-Man's opponent in this episode of adventure is Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio. I'm not concealing - if it was not for the fact that Gyllenhaal plays it, I probably would not have given him so much attention (what a miracle any man has such a big eye for) but it's a curious figure in all. Mainly because although it is not a very distinctive black film character, it is the most glued (quite paradoxically) to the biggest problem of modern times. Without betraying too much, I can safely say that knowing the mechanism of the world - it is more difficult to defeat someone who fights such a weapon as Mysterio than even Thanos. Because Mysterio uses what he knows about human perception of reality more than he does with power. Here, in order to win you do not even need magic or power from another dimension, you just need to use the media well. This is not the character to which we will come back, exchanging the best characters in the MCU, because unfortunately - here it is obvious that he wasn't necessarily most important for the writers but Gyllenhaal gives him enough life to make a man want a bit more scenes with Mysterio.
This is interesting, because this light, pleasant film that watching with a smile on lips, somewhere put side comments about modern times much more sharply than Captain Marvel or even Captain America (though it may be closer to some aspects of the Winter Soldier). This is not a foreground thread but it is well written. However, let's not hide - this is exactly the movie where the audience shows emotions not during the scenes in which Tom Holland is so wonderfully crying, and bends under the pressure of a sense of duty, but at the scene where two teenagers stand on the bridge trying to unknowingly confess feelings. And we always need such applause in the cinema. Because these are good emotions, and probably those that refer to what is very human in us, not super heroic. Anyway, I'm not concealing that this is the moment when the movie laughs about how well the Dutch know English and the man discovers that sometimes it's nice to take the characters from the magical world of distant America into more "human" scenery, because then it's easier to have a good laugh from this absurd which is the existence of masked super heroes in the world.
Admittedly, the actor's film works well, precisely because of young people. Tom Holland, despite being 23 years old, plays 16 years so convincingly that we can remember all the school trips on which our life was about to start. Zendaya is great as MJ. Anyway, the longer I think about this character, the more I like it. On the one hand, we have a confident girl who clearly has no problem to take over the command group. This is certainly not a shy girl. But at the same time - often on this trip, we see her alone somewhere, clearly independent and looking for her own place. You can see that this is a girl who is liked, even popular, but being among others makes her feel a bit uncomfortable, she likes her own company, and tells her what she thinks. MJ is exactly the kind of girl I have known many times in reality, which is not necessarily a lot in cinematography. Those who are not afraid of the group, but all in all prefer to be alone. I really like it. In general, I have the impression that the actor is one of those Marvel films in which it is difficult to indicate someone who stands out. Even the things that during watching seemed a little strange to me eventually formed into a coherent and logical whole, which made me, admire Samuel L. Jackson even more, despite who - plays here a little differently than usual and has a lot of sense.
In the last final paragraph it is worth adding that in this movie, the scenes after the subtitles are extremely important and very connecting this film with subsequent productions. Much more than has happened in recent years. At the same time, these are scenes that are really well-made and those that make you don't want to leave the cinema even more. Because here is an important point, Spider-Man is exactly the movie, at which man does not want to end. In my opinion, because it's just a lot of manners in it, but also - does man ever wait until he finally comes home from a nice school trip with friends? Another thing - this is not a movie (and there are such films about heroes) in which nobody says anything on the other half now because of they all fight. Here, however, the moral thread requires dialogue to spread evenly over the whole film.
I do not conceal that the formula of the super heroic film is slowly beginning to be boring. Ultimately it is not a lie that they are all plus or minus the same. Those which we assess in the last years higher, usually distinguished by aesthetics, a different approach to the hero, or more spectacular skirmishes against the green screen. In Spider-Man, we were offered a slightly different idea, transferring our attention from all those heroic experiences, to something that suits the summer, to our memories, which allows us to laugh at stereotypes about Europe and at the same time - tear the heroes from the well-known scenery of the great American cities. Ultimately, the movie itself is like such a great European MCU trip, during which almost no pressure, you can have fun. Of course, if we choose the right place on the bus.
