Hace algunos días vi algo de revuelo causado por esta serie y me puse a investigar, me sorprendí muchísimo cuando vi que su puntaje en Rotten Tomatoes era de 100% de la crítica . Dije WoW! Tiene que ser MUY buena porque a pesar de que está recién lanzada y puede que cambie un poco con el transcurso del tiempo, es muy extraño que algún film o serie tenga semejante calificación y las que conozco que lo tienen como Fleabag y What we do in the shadows (Temporada 3) son piezas excelentes, entonces me dispuse a hacer un maratón de la misma, aquí están mis opiniones.
A few days ago I saw some hype caused by this series and I did some research, I was really surprised when I saw that its score on Rotten Tomatoes was 100% from critics . I said WoW! It has to be VERY good because even though it is just released and may change a little over time, it is very rare for any film or series to have such a rating and the ones I know that have it like Fleabag and What we do in the shadows (Season 3) are excellent pieces, so I set out to marathon it, here are my opinions.
La historia está ambientada en Inglaterra y nos cuenta cómo se desarrolla una amistad entre Charlie Spring, un muchacho tímido y que ha sido víctima del bullying debido a su orientación sexual y Nick Nelson, alguien que es totalmente su opuesto, es jugador estrella de rugby y muy sociable. Ambos encuentran refugio y consuelo en el otro y la amistad comienza a tornarse en algo más, y allí empiezan a surgir dudas e inseguridades en ambos. A la par se van desarrollando algunas sub-historias conocemos a los antiguos amigos de ambos chicos, tenemos al grupo de Charlie: Tao, Elle e Isaac, quienes a su vez lidian con sus propios problemas y de cierta forma llegan a sentirse opacados por la amistad de estos dos, Elle también está descubriendo muchas cosas ya que acaba de cambiarse a una escuela de solo niñas ya que es transexual. Por el otro lado tenemos los amigos de Nick, el equipo de rugby y algunos de los bullies del colegio. También nos muestran la relación de los chicos con sus padres.
The story is set in England and tells us how a friendship develops between Charlie Spring, a shy boy who has been bullied because of his sexual orientation, and Nick Nelson, someone who is the complete opposite, a star rugby player and very sociable. Both find refuge and comfort in each other and the friendship begins to turn into something more, and doubts and insecurities begin to emerge in both of them. At the same time some sub-stories are developing, we meet the old friends of both boys, we have Charlie's group: Tao, Elle and Isaac, who in turn are dealing with their own problems and in some ways come to feel overshadowed by the friendship of these two, Elle is also discovering many things as she has just changed to an all-girls school because she is transgender. On the other side we have Nick's friends, the rugby team and some of the school bullies. We are also shown the boys' relationship with their parents.
La serie va mucho más allá de ser una historia "coming out age" inclusiva. La manera en que está escrita y actuada hace que todo se haga demasiado palpable y te identificas con ella y no solamente por la parte del primer amor, hay muchas situaciones: problemas y momentos felices con los amigos, el miedo de contarle algo a tus papás y que estos te apoyen, los nuevos comienzos y las nuevas experiencias como tocar un nuevo instrumento o empezar a practicar un deporte. Si hablamos de la parte estética de la serie, la cinematografía, la ambientación, el maquillaje y los vestuarios cooperan para darnos una estética atrayente y juguetona, muy fresca y joven. Debo destacar las actuaciones de nuestros protagonistas Kit Connor (Nick) y Joe Locke (Charlie) no me extrañaría que estuvieran nominados para los próximos Emmy.
The series goes far beyond being an inclusive "coming out age" story. The way it is written and acted makes it all too palpable and you identify with it and not only for the first love part, there are many situations: problems and happy moments with friends, the fear of telling something to your parents and that they support you, new beginnings and new experiences like playing a new instrument or start practicing a sport. If we talk about the aesthetic part of the series, the cinematography, the setting, the makeup and the costumes cooperate to give us an attractive and playful aesthetic, very fresh and young. I must highlight the performances of our protagonists Kit Connor (Nick) and Joe Locke (Charlie) I would not be surprised if they were nominated for the next Emmy.
No puedo decirles si la serie va exactamente con el novela gráfica en la que está inspirada pero sé que la guionista es quien escribió la novela gráfica. Realmente se las recomiendo, la pueden ver en unas cuantas horas porque los capítulos son bastante cortos, ojala decidan hacer una segunda temporada. Creo que no me gustaba tanto algo desde Palm Springs, le doy 10/10. Esto es todo por hoy, gracias por llegar hasta aquí, adiós!
I can't tell you if the series goes exactly with the graphic novel in which it is inspired but I know that the scriptwriter is the one who wrote the graphic novel. I really recommend it, you can watch it in a few hours because the chapters are quite short, I hope they decide to make a second season. I don't think I liked something so much since Palm Springs, I give it 10/10. That's all for today, thanks for making it this far, bye!
