I read the trilogy of books by author Jamie McGuire many years ago and was surprised that they took the first one to make a movie, as the plot is aimed at young people and it has some strong scenes for adults.

I saw last night the film version with the screenplay adapted by Roger Kumble who is also the director and had just worked in both facets in the film After We Collided which was also part of a saga of the novel After and I found it somewhat interesting but not fabulous, because although it captures the essence of the novel is a plot that has lost in time validity.

Dylan Sprouse, known for his role as Zack Martin in the series The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, plays Travis Maddox, a young man who fights in clandestine boxing matches as a way to pay for his college studies, who is a relative of a friend of the protagonist and lives in a room in her house.

Virginia Gardner as Abby Abernathy, the female side of the story, daughter of a famous poker player, skilled and also famous for inheriting her father's facility with cards, decides to travel to study at the university and in one of the fights she meets Travis.

The sweet and sour relationship climaxes when they both make a bet. If he wins a fight she will live for a month in the room with him, and he wins.

In those thirty days the plot unfolds and sex scenes make their appearance, ending as a different kind of love story.

It was released in theaters in April 2023 and the critics were not good, the comments about abuse, misogyny and absurdity were numerous, as well as those who consider the plot is not ingenious or is obsolete, but there are also those who consider it is fun.

The box office gross is 4 million dollars to date and a curious detail is that among the producers of the film is Brian Pitt.
