This is a traditional romance film with soap opera scenes and development very much in the style of the novels written and made into films by Nicholas Sparks, in fact it is based on a work by Heidi McLaughlin that bears the same name and the screenplay is adapted by
Bethany Ashton Wolf.
It begins with a failed wedding where the groom does not show up at the church in the town of Saint located in Louisiana and from there it moves to a few years later where the protagonist and fiancé on the run, Liam Page, played by Alex Roe known for playing Jay Keaton in The Fugitives and also for appearing in other films like "The Fifth Wave" and "Rings" has become famous singing country music and is in one of his concerts.
The news of the death of his best friend from high school shocks him and he decides to go to his funeral getting his ex-girlfriend named Josie, played by Jessica Rothe, known for playing Alexis in the 2016 award winning movie, La La Land and other work in film and television, who has a little girl who is the same age as the time he left her and at the end he finds out she is his.
It begins the drama with someone trying to be a parent and with somewhat traditional scenes and must make changes in order to fit in, the ending is predictable and the actions before the ending the same.
It was released in January 2018 and in its opening weekend it managed to gross a little over the production cost which was at $3.5 million, something that eventually went up to just over $16 million, being financially successful.
The critics were not good, considering it very predictable and stereotypical and a cloying love story.
The film was directed by Bethany Ashton Wolf who adapted the script and who had made her debut in that role in 2001 with the film Don's Plum, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire which was prevented from being released in the United States due to litigation.
Music was scored by Brett Boyett and cinematography by Duane Mankiller.
It is a movie for those who like old-fashioned romance, with good scenery and music, personally I disagree with the review but between tastes and colors have not written the authors.
