This is a drama/romance film based on the novel of the same name written by Katherine Center and published in 2015, the screenplay was adapted by Vicky Wight who was also the director of the film, she came from doing the same job in the 2020 film The Last Husband.
The plot revolves around Helen, played by Ellie Kemper, she is best known for her roles of Erin Hannon in the sitcom The Office (2009-2013); She has also appeared in films, notably Bridesmaids (2011), 21 Jump Street (2012), Sex Tape (2014), and most recently Home Sweet Home Alone (2021). In 2018, she released her debut book, My Squirrel Days, a recently divorced woman who to get out of her comfort zone enrolls in a 'beginners' Appalachian Trail survivalist course.
In it, she surprisingly meets Jake, a longtime friend of her brother's, played by Luke Grimes, he is known for his role as real life Navy SEAL Marc Alan Lee in the acclaimed film American Sniper.and for playing Elliot Grey in the film Fifty Shades of Grey (2015), and its sequels, Fifty Shades Darker (2017) and Fifty Shades Freed (2018), who has had a crush on her for many years and along with another group of people make the set course.
Both of them are presented with occasions to share and in different ways than before they get to know each other.
In the traditional style of the genre, the film is full of beautiful landscapes of the mountains and scenes with a touch of humor and peculiar characters.
It was released on July 27, 2023 through the Netflix platform and most comments have been positive although there are also those who think the movie is boring and the ending is very predictable.
Personally I think it meets the objectives of the genre and that it is light, in addition to showing us some objectives of hiking.
