This is a movie that combines drama and romance and is based on the novel of the same name written by Taylor Jenkins Reid and published in 2016, the adaptation of the script was in charge of the author herself and her husband Alex Jenkins Reid, who is known for writing the scripts of some TV series such as Resident Advisors (2015), Angie Tribeca (2016), Legends of the Hidden Temple (2016), Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library (2017), Trolls The Beat Goes On (2018).
The direction was by Andy Fickman known for being the director of the TV series , Kevin Can Wait which aired from 2016 to 2018.
The plot revolves around a woman named Emma, played by Phillipa Soo known for playing Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton in the musical Hamilton, for which she was nominated for a Tony Award in 2016, who after happy months with her partner traveling around the world loses him after disappearing in a helicopter accident and is presumed dead.
She after three years decides to rebuild her life and gets with her school friend, who was always in love with her, named Sam, played by Simu Liu, and they fall in love, getting engaged to get married, but one day she receives a call from her husband, who was supposed to be dead, named Jesse, played by Luke Bracey, who had played the role of Jerry Schilling in the musical film Elvis and everything gets complicated.
The story takes unexpected turns as she loves both of them and faces a dilemma that she must resolve to continue her life.
The film was released in theaters on April 7, 2023, digitally on April 14, 2023 and on video on demand on April 28, 2023 having mixed reviews, many professionals found the script lacking in innovation and repetitive, as well as the lack of chemistry of the leads, while others feel it fulfills its promise of romance and intrigue.
Personally I think it meets the standard of romance and that the time changes in which the story is told are well done and while it is true that at some points it falls into unnecessary scenes, these are few and do not make you forget the right ones.
