Primal Fear (1996)

This legal thriller and drama film was directed by Gregory Hoblit and is based on the novel of the same name by William Diehl with an adapted screenplay by Steve Shagan. and Ann Biderman

The story follows attorney Martin Vail, played by Richard Gere, who defends Aaron Stampler, a young man accused of brutally murdering the Archbishop of Chicago.

Stampler, played by Edward Norton in his film debut, is a seemingly shy and disturbed altar boy.

As Vail delves deeper into the case, he uncovers a series of unexpected twists and turns.

The plot thickens when it is revealed that the seemingly innocent Stampler suffers from multiple personality disorder. An alternate personality named "Roy" appears, who is brash and violent, and becomes a key factor in the unfolding of the story.

As the trial progresses, Vail faces ethical and moral challenges as he struggles to uncover the truth behind the crime and determine Aaron Stampler's true identity.

The film explores themes of manipulation, corruption and the fragility of the human mind.

Edward Norton received a great deal of recognition for his outstanding performance in the film. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1997. In addition, he won several major awards for his performance, including the Golden Globe Award and the BAFTA Award in the same category.

The film itself received recognition in other ways as well. It was nominated for an ACE Eddie Award in the Best Dramatic Editing category, and an Edgar Allan Poe Award in the Best Picture category. These awards highlight the quality of the film's editing and storytelling.

It was also a commercial success, receiving a positive reception from both critics and audiences. The film managed to captivate audiences with its intriguing plot and the outstanding performances of the cast.

It grossed more than $102 million while its production budget was a mere $30 million.

Personally I think it is a good film and I recommend it 100%.
