This is an action, suspense and survival movie directed by Ben Ketai, who to his credit has films like Ghost House Pictures, 30 Days of Night: Dark Days and the webseries 30 Days of Night: Dust to Dust, he also adapted the script along with Mike Nguyen Le whose last work was in the TV series Patient Zero based on The River Wild by Denis O'Neill who was the creator of the first film starring Meryl Streep, making this a free sequel.
The plot revolves around a whitewater rafting trip taken by a group of friends, including leading lady Leighton Meester, who plays Joey, a two-time Teen Choice Award winner in 2009 and 2010 for Best Drama Actress for the series Gossip Girl.
Completing the cast are Taran Killan as Gray, brother of the former, Adam Brody as Trevor, their childhood friend with a dark past, and Olivia Swann as Karissa and Eva Connolly as Van.
Everything goes as expected until a confusing event where one of the group is injured makes them have to return to take her to a hospital and different events in that journey cause a drastic change in the plan.
Gevorg Sarkisian's photography is impeccable and the scenery is spectacular, highlighting the aerial shots that give an excellent panoramic view of the place where the plot takes place.
The film was released on digital, DVD and Netflix on August 1, 2023 and the reviews have been positive, highlighting Meester's performance and the quality of the script that keeps the tension and rhythm until the end, although there is a small group that considers it weak in relation to the one screened in 1994.
Personally, I enjoyed it and found it a good proposal, simple but effective in maintaining interest until the end.
