Materializing cartoons and turning them into real people is not an easy task, even less so when they are set in a prehistoric world with curious artifacts that simulate later times, and therein lies, in my opinion, the most striking feature of this film, which was able to transform a successful animated series into a cinematic story.
It was necessary to bring together Hanna-Barbera, the creators of the cartoons, Steven Spielberg in the production, George Lucas' Light and Magic and The Jim Henson Company, creator of The Muppets, to give life to the protagonists of the story and to the devices and objects that made the television series successful in the 60's and later.

Although the script is weak, it was selected as the winner of the Razzie award as the worst of 1994, the main idea of this production is to entertain without much philosophy and with a touch of humor and it succeeds, thanks to the good performances of John Goodman as Fred Flintstone, Rick Moranis as Barney Rubble, Elizabeth Perkins as Wilma Flintstone, Rosie O'Donnell as Betty Rubble and the rest of the cast, including Halle Berry as Miss Sharon Stone and Elizabeth Taylor as Pearl Slaghoople.

The plot is synthesized around the fact that Fred Flinstone is appointed vice president of the company where he works and taking advantage of his innocence in business matters, an advisor and his secretary try to trick him into signing payment authorizations in which they will keep the money, using flattery as a strategy that ends up exacerbating the man's vanity to the point of breaking his friendship with his best friends, the Rubble.
In the end, family unity, selfless friendship and dignity at work triumph, and the culprits are caught and Fred ends up rejecting the position of president of the company offered by Mr. Slate because he considers that he is not fit for it.

The film had bad reviews from specialists but a good reception from the public, which made it the sixth highest grossing film of 1994, collecting more than 341 million dollars at the box office, more than seven times what it cost to make it which was 46 million dollars, this encouraged to create a second part that was released in 2000 and the plot of the same was a prequel to the previous one.
The actors and crew that directed the first one were changed and it was a resounding failure at the box office, obtaining 24 million dollars less than its original budget.
