This is a film by director Per Hanefjord, based on the successful novel of the same name written by Camilla Läckberg, with an adapted screenplay by Maria Karlsson.
The plot is set in the picturesque seaside town of Fjällbacka in Sweden.
The story follows Erica Falck, a successful crime writer, played by Helena Bergström, whose parents are killed in a violent car accident.

Through flashbacks, the story flashes back to World War II, revealing dark secrets and unexpected connections.
Erica and Patrik dive into a maze of clues and testimonies as they try to solve the case of the missing boy.
As they unravel the truth, they face unexpected dangers and discover that secrets from the past can have devastating consequences in the present.
