The film is a remake of a South Korean production titled Siworae -also known under the title Il Mare-, released in 2000.
The plot revolves around Dr. Kate Forster and architect Alex Wyler who live in a lake house at different times but correspond through its leash mailbox where she has left a letter for the new tenant before moving in,
They discover that they are two years apart and even have the same dog since it belonged to him and she found it in the house when she moved in, she is in 2006 and he is in 2004.
This unusual exchange of letters is creating a relationship and among many things certain passages of their past lives are revealed, she has had a fleeting affair with him and the house was built by Alex's father, a famous architect for his mother but was abandoned when she left him.
The main roles are played by Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves and it meant the reunion of both of them after starring in the 1994 hit movie Speed, and he was the main figure of The Matrix saga, winner of many awards and equally successful commercially.
It was released in June 2006 and received mixed reviews, although the movie was positively received by audiences, grossing over $114 million dollars, exceeding its production budget of $40 million.
It won them both the Teen Choice Awards in the Choice Liplock category and her the Hollywood Film Festival, both in 006 as Best Supporting Actress.
Personally I highly recommend it, it is a movie with good scenes and also with an unexpected ending.
