"The Other Man" is based on a story by Bernhard Schlink that tells the story of a married couple where the husband (Liam Neeson) begins to suspect his wife (Laura Linney) of infidelity with another man (Antonio Banderas).

From here, the film shows the investigation and follow-up undertaken by Neeson's character to clarify the situation.

However, despite the potential of the original story, the film adaptation suffers from some flaws.

It incorporates numerous side scenes and overlong moments that do not add anything relevant to the plot. This ends up unbalancing the pace of the film and slowing down the action at times.

I also find the characters very predictable and stereotypical, so they don't manage to generate much interest or surprise with their actions.

Perhaps it would have worked better if it had focused only on the central events, without being diluted by unnecessary subplots, as another reviewer suggests.

In short, despite having an attractive basic story, this film adaptation does not fully exploit its potential and suffers from some structural flaws that detract from the final result.

The film fails to generate the suspense it promises because its plot follows overly conventional and predictable paths.

Anyone who has previously seen films such as "Unfaithful" will find this one less engaging and lacking the same level of dramatic intensity.

This is a pity, because the cast is competent. Liam Neeson's performance as the cheated husband struggling to contain his anger stands out. Were it not for his acting and the unexpected twist at the end, the film would be in serious danger of going unnoticed.

However, characters that fail to generate surprise and a story with features we have already seen do not keep us interested until the denouement.

This condemns "The Other Man" to remain in the background and to be quickly relegated to the evening slot on minor channels.

An unfortunate reality given the potential intrigue of its starting point.
