Debo comenzar diciendo que no he leído el libro. Y es una trsiteza haber visto primero la película. Normalmente lo hago al revés, pero la película me dejó con mucha intriga así que lo leeré y luego les comentaré las diferencias. El libro fue publicado en 1965 por su autor, Frank Herbert. Ha sido adaptada a la televisión y al cine mucho antes de que lo intentara Denis Villeneuve, quien es el director de esta nuevo intento para la pantalla grande. Lo que vi antes, fue que todos los que intentaron adaptarla visualmente fracasaron, así que este nuevo director la tenía difícil por el nivel de expectativa de los fans.
I should start by saying that I haven't read the book. And it's a shame I watched the movie first. I usually do it the other way around, but the movie left me with a lot of intrigue so I will read it and then tell you about the differences. The book was published in 1965 by its author, Frank Herbert. It has been adapted to television and film long before it was attempted by Denis Villeneuve, who is the director of this new attempt for the big screen. What I saw before, was that all those who tried to adapt it visually failed, so this new director had a hard time because of the level of expectation of the fans.
Respecto al hilo narrativo de la historia, es necesario decir los primeros 30 minutos de película vas a ciegas. Estas viendo y escuchando cosas que no tienen explicación en el filme. ¿Quién es Paul, por qué hay un aire de misterio a su alrededor? Además de las imágenes que aparecen como si se tratase de un sueño o una profecía. Poco a poco vas entendiendo las cosas, el "regalo" del emperador al darle a la Casa Altreides, Arrakis. La importancia de su linaje y su implicación con los Bene Gesserit, la posible profecía de que Paul sea el Mesías que llegaría a Arrakis a liberar a los Fremen. Todo esto es parte de la historia. Y llama mucho la atención la mezcla: religión y política que se ve a lo largo de ella. But thanks to the visions, we are waiting for the encounter with those characters that will be fundamental later on. LA IMAGEN | THE IMAGE
Debo decir que me gustó mucho lo que vi, la aridez del clima desértico fue logrado. Además de que gráficamente se esforzaron mucho en representar el ambiente de la novela. Este es el talón de Aquiles del género fantástico de la literatura, yo no he leído el libro así que no sé si al 100% se alcanzó la meta de describir el mundo de Dune. Pero visualmente me gustó, los colores tierra, el misticismo en la imagen que muchas veces se ve oscuro y no sabes qué sucede forma parte inequivocablemente de lo que quieren mostrar.
I must say that I really liked what I saw, the aridity of the desert climate was achieved. In addition to that graphically they made a great effort to represent the atmosphere of the novel. This is the Achilles heel of the fantasy genre of literature, I haven't read the book so I don't know if the goal of describing the world of Dune was 100% achieved. But visually I liked it, the earth colors, the mysticism in the image that many times looks dark and you don't know what's going on is unmistakably part of what they want to show.
SONIDO | SOUND
Voy a admitir que me gustó mucho el sonido. Pero no lo entendí de cierta manera, escuché sonidos vikingos, y tribales que le dan ese toque de ansiedad. Hasta este momento no sabía que Hans Zimmer fue el encargado del soundtrack, y con razón me sonaba, fue el mismo que compuso el soundtrack de Interestellar. A mi parecer el sonido es como Interestellar y Gladiador. Tiene matices de misterio-sagrado.
I will admit that I really liked the sound. But I didn't understand it in a certain way, I heard Viking sounds, and tribal sounds that give it that touch of anxiety. Until this moment I didn't know that Hans Zimmer was in charge of the soundtrack, and rightly so, he was the same one who composed the soundtrack for Interestellar.
