One of my favorite childhood movies. Watched it somewhere in 12 years, not knowing that he is part of some trilogy (not yet seen in full: however, in the Internet write that trilogy conditional and movies are not the plot, and stylistically.). Yes and that there-this, it seems, the first Western, which I watched.
"Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo" — this spaghetti Western from Sergio Leone. So Wild West it is not like the Wild West, the characters are really cool, and bullets live in a non-Euclidean world. What good is it, ask?
Epic and atmosphere. Not even: Epic Atmosphere, with a capital letter. Music Morricone, and when its there is no-silence, say more, than stingy replicas heroes. Grandiose landscapes. Freezing like statues, silent characters. No less monumental than landscapes, close-UPS of harsh. It sounds ridiculous — but the screen is damn convincing.
"Il buono" a man without a name performed by Clint Eastwood. On the background of two other heroes, he really looks the knight without fear and without reproach. But if you look closely, he has adapted well to the harsh world of the Wild West. Ironic; uncommunicative, almost vicious, but easily manipulative when he needs it; the aristocracy and mystery throws the enemies into a rage and at the same time calling them respect... if it Can be called "good"? Rather, it observes neutrality in accordance with its code of honour. At least, in its appearance there is nothing sugary-glossy-edifying that favourably distinguishes it from typical "good" heroes of the fighter.
"il brutto" is the main villain played By Lee van Cleef. Here he is-a typical villain, one hundred percent, even infernal. I have the feeling that the evil is for him an end in itself. Although the crimes he commits even with some boredom... and it turned out he though colorful, but the flat character of the three.
"il cattivo" is the most ambiguous character. He's the bad guy, no matter what, pushes for the second, claimed as a "major positive". He is one of those characters that you later years of arguing fans — what is it, why is it, "I wanted to tell the author", etc. Tuco performed by Eli Wallah — typical thug. Uneducated, uncultured, "frostbite." It is guided by momentary material needs and mood. At the same time, vindictive and vengeful. But at the same time tuko is comical and not devoid of a certain charm, which is difficult to understand. Whether he conquers with his naturalness, or with unsophisticated cynical humor, or with a complicated biography, or with how easily he changes his behavior depending on his personal benefit. His definition is difficult to understand: in the Italian original he just had a Bad (that is just bad, in that time, hero van cliff was Evil, Evil personified in the film). In our box office he became Evil, in the sense of "vicious" - rather psychological, than moral feature. Finally, in the English Varina he's Ugly — Ugly. Does it remind the audience of a wild beast who thinks too simply and pragmatically, a parody of"natural man"? Does it cause some " Stockholm syndrome "(hardly in real life someone would be happy to meet such a tuko, who with jokes and tricks" pressed "would have his"mobile")? Or there is something touchingly childish, like he was so for life and remained "difficult teenager"?
"Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo" is a very male film. One fact-the first remark sounds somewhere in the eleventh minute — says a lot. All severely-revolvers, desert, tense views. However, the female audience it can appeal to as many harizmatichnyi men, and around them are not hanging around annoying the girls!
The brutality and epicness of the movie rolls — but what about realism? Rumor has it that the Wild West is not like, and combat scenes with physics are not friends. I advise you to perceive the film as a kind of heroic epic — which the young cultural space of the United States is so lacking. Ironically, but created this epic Wild West at all not Americans and not in America. Here is such here is cultural phenomenon.
Great movie. Its existence supports the belief that the movie may not be just next to the flashing pictures, and a door in an unusual, magical world of adventure. Western standard, the standard of action, the standard of "atmospheric" cinema.
