Never in my life have I seen a movie that leaves me as mystified and confused at the end like Birdbox . If you’ve not seen it, I suggest you do and prepare your mind for a thrilling roller coaster of events that will leave you at the edge of your seat from start to finish.
Birdbox is based on the novel written by Josh Malerman titled Birdbox and is one of those horror thrillers that you watch once and then leaves an ominous mark hanging over your mind for a long time. If you have a weak stomach for horror flicks, I suggest you watch this with someone but after seeing it, I don’t know if the tension it generates in your body will make you want to open or close your eyes when you’re alone. I’ll let you decide that when you finally see it.
The movie focuses on an unexplained event that gives certain people the urge to kill themselves and then somehow “cures” the mentally insane and pushes them to force the eyes “normal” people open, thus leading to the person in question committing suicide. This unexplained event turned the entire world on its head. The events of the movie take us through a series of events that led to the beginning part of the movie. Then continues to a “safe zone”.
The Plot
The main character of the movie is Sandra Bullock. At the start of the movie, she is shown giving two Children named “Boy” and “Girl” stern warnings about taking off their blindfolds and then leading them down to a boat on a deserted riverside. This will later on be the waterway that leads to a place free from all the dangers of the World they live in called the “safe zone”.

Boy was later shown to be her own child, while girl was the daughter of a Woman she met along the way. The events of the movie spanned about 4-5 years, judging by the size of Boy and Girl, who were both born in the midst of the crisis.
Sandra’s character called Malorie was portrayed to have a solitary personality and despite the birth of her child, she still retained it. This meant that she never displayed affection towards people she cared about. However, what she didn’t express in words, she expressed in deeds as she took responsibility for the child named “Girl”, whose mum almost had her and everyone in a secure resident killed. She also showed this emotional side of her at the tail end of the movie when she cried out in the woods to “Girl” and apologized for how she didn’t let Tom complete his story.
Tom, played by(Trevante Rhodes) was Malorie’s short-lived love affair. Their relationship was borne out of an unusual circumstance but they grew on each other, despite the situation and began the adventure to the safe zone together with Boy and Girl. The relationship ended when Tom committed suicide because he was forced to see the light by the crazies.

On different occasions, birds get seriously irritated by its presence and serve as a sort of warning system to tell people of its presence.
Great movie and Cinematography, unexpected scenes and some really memorable soundtracks like "looking forward and backward", "A hidden moment" and "Sleep deprivation" by Trent Reznor. It was nice to see how events of the movie were interwoven to form a brilliant plot. A fine example is how Machine gun Kelly”s character played a short role of betrayal in the film and his character’s involvement was a major determining factor in a chain of events that led to the happy ending.
Birdbox is an amazing blockbuster that I’d encourage you to watch. It is a thrilling movie that has an endless supply of drama, plot twists, romance, thrills, action and an amazing adventure with a very heartwarming ending that quite frankly leaves you wondering.
