Project Power Movie Review: That's a tough pill to swallow

Review by @belemo · 2177d · of Project Power

I've been really occupied with school and all that serious shit, so I decided to unwind a little bit by watching a movie. I haven't been keeping up with what's popping, so I just scrolled through fzmovies until I saw a familiar face. I saw Jamie Foxx on the cover and figured, why the hell not?

For what it's worth, I wasn't really expecting much from the start of the movie. They already had the cinematic thing going, and then showed some random dude holding a Glock, so I figured it was going to be one of those movies with plenty "action" and hopefully, a lot of violence. I guess I was just in the mood for something of that nature, so I enjoyed it a bit more than I expected, with all things considered.

The story focuses on three main characters that battle through a lot of super-powered bad guys to save Jamie Foxx's daughter. The story is that there's a particular drug that gives people all sorts of superpowers that is being distributed in the street. Typically, the lower class of the society are used as lab rats in this ploy and end up distributing this very potent and dangerous drug.

It was yet another Hollywood blockbuster with a lot of violence, impressive fight scenes, lovely sequences and a lot of effects. The movie relied heavily on CGI and had humour infused in it.

Another thing that stood out from the movie, was the positive message about empowering oneself, albeit in a weird situation. It almost seemed like the Power drug being consumed was a euphemism for something more philosophical but maybe that's just me thinking about it too much.

The acting was pretty standard, with the cringy moments happening few and far but THEY WERE THERE. They just didn't happen too often and I'd say that's a positive. Dominique Fishback played the overzealous drug dealer cum protagonist and she did a pretty decent job in portraying her character.

For the most part, I'd say the movie was pretty flat; a few good guys trying to take down the big bad rich guys with many guns. It is one of those movies that nothing takes you by surprise, so you just have to reduce your thirst for drama and just enjoy fight scenes and pointless violence.

i started watching this last night and it seemed kind of corny. I'll probably finish it just due to the fact that i am at a loss as to what to watch now but most of the reviews are looking like yours... ie: not good

Saw the movie yesterday. A total waste... Well, that would be harsh, but it wasn't worth my time. The dialogue and the action scenes were below par.

The movie is actually enjoyable, not that terrible as other movie reviewers rate it on Youtube
