In my usual quest to unearth dope movies that I could use to stem the time, I ran into this Mark Wahlberg action comedy created in 2020. To be completely honest, I only decided to watch the movie because I saw Post Malone in the cover image and I have to say that I'm a big fan of his music.
Well, I won't say I was clickbaited into watching the movie but it was underwhelming to find out he only played a cameo. However, his role was pretty important in the movie and so at least that's one thing they got right.
The movie was about Spenser, a "disgraced" police officer in Boston who was sent to jail for assaulting his superior officer. After spending five years in prison, it turns out that Spenser didn't learn any lesson and it led him to unravel a conspiracy that exposed numerous crooked police officers in the Boston police department.
The main character was Mark Wahlberg who played Spenser, and the support included Henry, his annoying but funny girlfriend and my favourite character Hawke, played by the same dude who played as "Mbaku" in Black Panther.
Through out the movie, I couldn't shake off how huge Hawke was and he used it in kicking ass. Henry on the other hand was a funny and feisty old man who mentored Spenser, and helped him with a place to stay when he got out of jail.
Opinion
The storyline was very predictable and sometimes a tad bit dumb. For example, the part where Spenser assumed seeing a toothpick some feet away from the crime scene means that his previous partner was there was pretty fucking dumb. I mean come on, a toothpick without even bullshitting us with the whole DNA thing, and you concluded it was him?
Other than the dumb storyline and some meh scenes, I think it was kind of fun. The movie had had a lot of humour and fun scenes, plus there was violence in the midst.
There were not many characters in the movie, so you could tell who the bad guy was frim the beginning. There wasn't any suspense either, so what you see is pretty much what you get. Well, sometimes that's not a bad thing I guess.
