THE WALLS HAVE EYES AND EARS, NOTHING IS SECRET AND SOMEONE IS ALWAYS WATCHING.

The films of terror / suspense, have always caught my attention, for its variety of unique moments where we can feel the tension and suspense through their characters or the environment that surrounds them. Some of my favorites where the lives of the characters are at risk, but before they go through situations that they themselves somehow generate or seek, where for personal reasons or simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, they suffer unexpected deaths or the terror of facing a serial killer.

This kind of movies have had a special place in my catalog and one of my favorites is Ready or Not, where a beautiful girl is about to meet the strange customs of her parents' family and everything gets out of control. Something that excites me about these types of films is that it arouses curiosity to know what is going to happen or what motivates killers to commit such acts in places and to people who seem to be doing just fine, but somehow or other fuck up their existence by committing acts that indirectly condemn them.

🇪🇸 LAS PAREDES TIENEN OJOS Y OÍDOS, NADA ES SECRETO Y SIEMPRE ALGUIEN ESTÁ OBSERVANDO.

Las películas de terror / suspenso, siempre me han llamado la atención, por su gran variedad de momentos únicos donde podemos sentir la tensión y suspenso a través de sus personajes o el ambiente que los rodea. Algunas de mis favoritas donde la vida de los personajes está en riesgo, peo antes pasan por situaciones que ellos mimos de alguna manera generan o buscan, donde por motivos personales o simplemente por estar en el lugar y momento incorrectos sufren muertes inesperadas o el terror de enfrentar a un asesino en serie.

Este tipo de películas han tenido un lugar especial en mi catálogo y unas de mis favoritas es Ready or Not, donde una hermosa chica está a punto de conocer la extrañas costumbres de la familia de sus padres y todo se sale de control. Algo que me emociona de este tipo de filmes es que despierta la curiosidad por saber que va a ocurrir o qué motiva a los asesinos a cometer dichos actos en lugares y a personas que parecen estar muy bien, pero que de alguna manera u otra joden su existencia cometiendo actos que los condenan indirectamente.

Of course not all of these films have to be presented in the same way and this is where a film comes in that may not be the best, but it does a decent job. THE RENTAL is one of those movies where everything seems to be going great, but from one moment to the next its characters screw everything up and get involved in such uncomfortable situations that it is hard to think that they have gotten themselves into it and perhaps it is impossible to get out of such a situation.

When I saw this movie I didn't focus so much on the performances or the killer in it, but rather the background of the situation that develops that is the detonator of everything that happens, I advance you that it is not a movie that can exceed your expectations or blow your mind, it is very basic and easy to forget, but if you are like me and see beyond you will surely like it from start to finish.

🇪🇸 Claro no todas estas películas tienen que ser presentadas de la misma manera y aquí es donde entra un filme que quizás no sea el mejor, pero hace un trabajo decente. THE RENTAL es de esas películas donde todo parece andar muy bien, pero de un momento a otro sus personajes lo echan a perder todo y se ven envueltos en situaciones tan incómodas que resulta difícil pensar que ellos mismos se han metido en ello y quizás sea imposible salir librados de tal situación.

Cuando vi esta película no me enfoque tanto en las actuaciones o el asesino que sale en ella, más bien el trasfondo de la situación que se desarrolla que es la detonadora de todo lo que ocurre, les adelanto que no es una película que pueda superar tus expectativas o te haga volar la cabeza, es muy básica y fácil de olvidar, pero si eres como Yo y ves más allá de seguro te gustara de inicio a final.

WHAT'S THE MOVIE ABOUT?

I'LL TELL YOU QUICKLY AND WITHOUT SPOILERS, IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET!

It all starts with a couple of young engaged couples who decide to rent a cabin to spend a different kind of weekend surrounded by nature and all that the place has to offer. These young people spend some time drinking wine and getting to know a little of each other's lives, where some awkward moments of each couple will come to light and they will be about to play with fire and for sure one of them will get burned.

Charlie played by (Dan Stevens) and Josh (Jeremy Allen White), are two brothers who have a couple of differences and see life from such different angles that clash with each other, these brothers are accompanied by their girlfriends, Michelle (Alison Brie) and Mina (Sheila Vand), are the female part of the film and the romantic partners of these guys.

They will have to go through a very strange time with a man named Taylor (Toby Huss) who rents them the place, but he is a bit racist and a bit disturbing. We will know more in depth the relationship that these guys have and that little sexual attraction between some of the characters that will turn things upside down inside the house but without attracting the attention of others.

🇪🇸 ¿DE QUÉ TRATA LA PELÍCULA?

¡TE LO CUENTO RÁPIDO Y SIN SPOILERS, POR SI AúN NO LA HAS VISTO!

Todo inicia con un par de jóvenes parejas de novios que toman la decisión de alquilar una cabaña para pasar un fin de semana diferente rodeado de la naturaleza y todo lo que el lugar les pueda ofrecer. Estos jóvenes pasan un tiempo tomando vino y conociendo un poco de la vida de cada uno de ellos, donde podrán a la luz algunos momentos incómodos de cada pareja y estarán a punto de jugar con fuego y de seguro alguno de ellos se quemara.

Charlie interpretado por (Dan Stevens) y Josh (Jeremy Allen White), son dos hermanos que tienen un par de diferencias y que ven la vida desde ángulos tan distintos que chocan uno con el otro, estos hermanos van a acompañados de sus novias, Michelle (Alison Brie) y Mina (Sheila Vand), son la parte femenina de la película y las parejas sentimentales de estos chicos.

Los cuales tendrán que pasar por un momento muy extraño con un señor llamado Taylor (Toby Huss) quien les alquila el lugar, pero tiene una forma de ser un poco racista y algo perturbadora. Conoceremos más a profundidad la relación que tienen estos chicos y esa pequeña atracción sexual entre algunos de los personajes que podrán las cosas de cabeza dentro de la casa pero sin llamar la atención de los demás.

This quartet will have to deal not only with a strange man but also with moments of tension, passion and deceit within the same house, putting on the table the dirty laundry and the desire for the forbidden. What seems to be a quiet weekend will turn into the worst weekend of their lives where drugs and alcohol will be the reason for their misfortune and only the truth will be the only escape from a nightmare that will become dark and full of blood.

¡From this point I will give you my opinion about the film, you must keep in mind that each review or thought is from my humble opinion and I do not expect you to be for or against what I thought of the film, my only intention is that you know what I thought of the plot or story that we are presented, always being as objective as possible without leaving aside the emotions or the message that the film can leave me, besides the important thing here is that you know my opinion or criticism, the rest is at the discretion of each person!.

🇪🇸 Este cuarteto tendrá que lidiar no solo con un hombre extraño sino también con momentos de tensión, pasión y engaño dentro de una misma casa, poniendo sobre la mesa los trapos sucios y el deseo a lo prohibido. Lo que parece ser un fin de semana tranquilo se convertirá en el peor fin de semana de sus vidas donde las drogas y el alcohol serán la razón de su desgracia y solo la verdad será el único escape de una pesadilla que se tornará oscura y llena de sangre.

¡Desde este punto te daré mi opinión sobre la película, debes tener en cuenta que cada crítica o pensamiento es desde mi humilde opinión y no espero que estés a favor o en contra sobre lo que me pareció el filme, mi única intención es que conozcas que me pareció a mí la trama o historia que nos presentan, siempre siendo lo más objetivo posible sin dejar de lado las emociones o el mensaje que pueda dejarme la película, además lo importante aquí es que conozcan mi opinión o crítica, lo demás queda al criterio de cada quien!

MY OPINION ABOUT "THE RENTAL

It is a very simple film without many complications or Oscar worthy performances, here the really important thing is the plot that develops behind the scenes and how attractive it can be for the viewer. When I read the synopsis I noticed that it had that potential to be an interesting movie and wanting to know how it would develop was the key to encourage me to see it.

I can tell you without dropping any SPOILERS that could ruin the movie that the way they handle the deception and the consequences that it brings, is somehow interesting, they put on a scale what is right and what is wrong, they also put more tension when they introduce an uncomfortable situation and that same situation puts the lives of others at risk.

One of my favorite scenes is when they discover a video camera in the bathroom, but they can't say anything, since those who discover it are not in a position to reveal what they have discovered, since it would put them in such a difficult situation that there would be no way back if they tell what is happening, from that point everything becomes interesting and almost unpredictable, since many situations come to light and you can't focus on just one.

DO I RECOMMEND IT?

The truth is that it has no loss and can entertain you to some extent, it is true that it has cliché scenes and nothing innovative, but as I said a moment ago is one of those movies where the plot that originates the situations through which each character will go through is worth paying attention to.

🇪🇸 MI OPINIÓN SOBRE “THE RENTAL”

Es una película muy sencilla sin muchas complicaciones o actuaciones merecedoras de un Óscar, aquí lo realmente importante es la trama que se desarrolla trasfondo y lo atractivo que puede llegar hacer para el espectador. Cuando leí la sinopsis note que tenía ese potencial en ser una película interesante y querer saber cómo se desarrollaría fue la clave para animarme a verla.

Te puedo decir sin soltar ningún SPOILERS que te pueda arruinar la película de que la forma en que manejan el engaño y las consecuencias que eso trae, es de alguna manera u otra interesante, ponen sobre una balanza lo que es correcto y lo que no, además le ponen mayor tensión cuando introducen una situación incómoda y esa misma situación pone la vida de los demás en riesgo.

Una de mis escenas favoritas es cuando descubren en el baño una cámara de video, pero no pueden decir nada, ya que quienes la descubren no están en posición de revelar lo que han descubierto, ya que los pondría en una situación tan difícil que no habría vuelta atrás si cuentan lo que está pasando, desde ese punto todo se torna interesante y casi impredecible, ya que muchas situaciones salen a la luz y no puedes enfocarte en una sola.

¿LA RECOMIENDO?

La verdad sí, es que no tiene pérdida alguna y te puede entretener hasta cierto punto, es verdad que tiene escenas cliché y nada innovadora, pero como te dije hace un momento es de esas películas donde la trama que origina las situaciones por las que pasará cada personaje es la que vale la pena prestarle atención.

SOMEONE IS ALWAYS WATCHING

When we think that we can do whatever we want and that no one will notice is when we sink deeper in this false illusion and reality surprises us giving us a slap in the face that does not make us put our feet back on the ground. A famous saying goes; that walls have eyes and ears and nothing is a secret between heaven and earth.

A saying that makes a lot of sense and that some of us forget when we try to do things that are wrong or that affect the people around us. THE RENTAL shows us that side so real that you can understand to a certain extent the reasons or what drives them to go through that key moment, but it also makes you think if it is worth risking everything for a different night.

Many points of view can be put on the table and maybe some are more obvious than others, but something I can highlight is the intention of the young director (Dave Franco) which I'm used to see in films as a protagonist or supporting character, but not as a director, but leaving that aside I could notice that he tries to be a bit original when presenting the story and although we may feel at times that we are seeing something repetitive, we may be surprised to see some new contexts that may not be the most innovative, but enough to see the film with another look.

THE GOOD AND THE BAD

THE GOOD

• The story is interesting and its development although a bit basic is good enough to keep you interested until the end.

• Scenarios with a good aesthetic and atmosphere both open and closed that helps us to see the depth of each situation.

• A slow pace, continuous and without unnecessary scenes, which serve as a support to give an organic development to a film that does not exceed one hour and forty minutes in length.

THE BAD

• Some plots or narrative lines seem repetitive, this usually happens in this type of films that try to be original, but can fall without realizing it in moments that have already been exposed in countless films.

• The horror scenes are not the most attractive and lack originality.

• The suspense music, or moments of tension are not as expected, which takes away from the tension of the scenes.

It is a film with a low budget and a new idea, but with features that make it one more of the pile, with the only difference that has an interesting background and to some extent saves the film and arouses the curiosity of the viewer.

🇪🇸 ALGUIEN SIEMPRE ESTÁ OBSERVANDO

Cuando pensamos que podemos hacer lo que nos venga en gana y que nadie se dará cuenta es cuando más nos hundimos en esa falsa ilusión y la realidad nos sorprende dándonos una bofetada que no hace poner los pies de vuelta a la tierra. Un famoso dicho dice; que las paredes tienen ojos y oídos y nada es un secreto entre el cielo y la tierra.

Un dicho que tiene mucho sentido y que algunos olvidamos cuando intentamos hacer cosas incorrectas o que afectan a las personas a nuestro alrededor. THE RENTAL nos muestra ese lado tan real que puedes entender hasta cierto punto las razones o lo que los impulsa a pasar por ese momento tan clave, pero también te pone a pensar si vale la pena arriesgar todo por una noche diferente.

Muchos puntos de vista se pueden ponerse sobre la mesa y quizás algunos sean más obvios que los otros, pero algo que sí puedo destacar es la intención del joven director (Dave Franco) del cual estoy acostumbrando a ver en películas como protagonista o personaje secundario, pero no como director, pero dejando eso de lado pude notar que intenta ser un poco original al momento de presentar la historia y aunque podamos sentir en algunos momentos que estamos viendo algo repetitivo, puede que nos sorprenda ver algunos nuevos contextos que quizás no sean los más innovadores, pero los suficientes para ver la película con otra mira.

LO BUENO Y LO MALO

LO BUENO

• La historia es interesante y su desarrollo aunque un poco básico es lo suficiente bueno para mantenerte interesado hasta el final.

• Escenarios con una buena estética y ambiente tanto abiertos como cerrados que nos ayuda a ver la profundidad de cada situación.

• Un ritmo lento, continuo y sin escenas innecesarias, que sirven de apoyo para darle un desarrollo orgánico a una película que no supera la hora y cuarenta minutos de duración.

LO MALO

• Algunos argumentos o líneas narrativas parecen repetitivas, esto suele pasar en este tipo de películas que intentan ser originales, pero pueden caer sin darse cuenta en momentos que ya han sido expuestos en un sinfín de películas.

• Las escenas de terror no son de las más atractivas y carecen de originalidad.

• La música de suspenso, o momentos de tensión no son los esperados, lo que le quita tensión a las escenas.

Es una película con poco presupuesto y una idea nueva, pero con rasgos que la hacen ser una más del montón, con la única diferencia que tiene un trasfondo interesante y que hasta cierto punto salva a la película y despierta la curiosidad del espectador.
