Synopsis When four illusionist comes together to perform the greatest show, all is not what it seems...
The movie revolves around four illusionist who was scouted out by an unknown person to perform on stage. There is Danny Alas, a very confident magician who is also good with cards and there is Henley Reeves his former assistant turned her own boss. There is also Merritt McKinney who is into hypnosis and uses it as a medium to cheat people of their money and lastly the cute and handsome Jack Wilder, who derives pleasure in his cunning ways of picking pocket. Different persons with their different personalities with the help of an unknown person with an ulterior motive becomes "The Four Horsemen". With the cover of staging a performance filled with people, they were able to pull off a bank heist, giving out the money to this same audience... you begin to wonder how they could rob a bank while on stage right?.
The Fbi is not left out of this movie as they begin to track down these magicians even to the point of arresting them. But you know that feeling of "I know they did it" but you just can not seem to figure out how it was done to pin the robbery on them was the case of Dylan Rhodes. They were always a step ahead of him at each step of the way, which drove him to becoming obsessed with catching them. To make it easier, the Fbi enlisted the help of Thaddeus, a former magician known for exposing the tricks of his colleagues. But the four horsemen has it all planned out as they gave them the chase of their lives.
Now You See Me is a movie that gave me the thrills when I saw it, I was shocked at most of the tricks "magic" that were pulled, they were mouth opening for me. I was just there trying to catch on but before you know it I just get caught with mouth wide open lol. The movie is a very clever one, with an entertaining plot. You get to see lots of magic which initially you do not understand not till you get the explanation, which was one thing I love about this movie. The tricks used on the audience in the movie and we the viewers are all accounted for, how it was done was revealed. Although sometimes, I felt like a dummy for even believing it, after it has been revealed am just like what the heck hehehe.... so funny you know. One of the trick was when they got arrested and Danny was handcuffed to the table, in the blink of an eye you just see him.... how can i explain this now lol, gosh this guys are crazy. Okay, one minute the handcuff is on his wrist, the other minute it is no longer there but on the Fbi guy's ( Dylan) wrist, you are then left with questions like, when did he uncuff himself? How did he do it? And many more.
Look closely because the closer you think you are, the less you actually see by Morgan Freeman.
The cast of the horsemen was amazing, I enjoyed watching everyone one of them. One of my favorite characters, Jesse Eisenberg as Danny, he plays so well with the cards and sure talks so fast and a lot too. Another character I love is that of Woody Harrelson as Merritt McKinney, his performance was great and I think his role of performing hypnosis in the movie can not be replaced easily like that of Henley Reeves. Henley as Isla Fisher and Dave Franco as Jack wilder also gave us a good screen time and an entertaining acts. Morgan Freeman did good too but kind of felt a bit off seeing him in this kind of movie and role but in all, they were all great. Not an expert when it comes to cinematography, but I think it was okay plus the visual effects too.
The movie is a prequel to Now You See Me 2 which also scored a very high points in the hearts of the the viewers, the tricks in the movie is scary though, especially the one in the vault..... It was madd. I think I also read something about the 3 coming out soon, do not know how true that is though. One fun element the director used that I enjoyed was the element of surprise, there were plot twist that leaves you shocked which helps you make sense of whatever it is that was unclear before. An entertaining movie that is worth the watch, so you can add this up on your watch list.
