I'm not the only one who thinks that the DC universe could use an upgrade when it comes to making films that can relate to our current reality. Thankfully, they made it happen, and they did this not with the joker movie, but, with The Batman.
Just like everyone who heard the news of Robert Pattinson being cast as batman, I too was also in doubt. Because nothing about Pattinson playing Batman to me made any sense. My thoughts at that time were that, if DC should go ahead with the crazy casting, then Pattinson has got a big shoe to fill, having been known as the pale kid from the twilight saga. Reasons for his being discredited(by me) as a unique casting for batman ranged beyond his previous movies' involvements to his physical appearance, and his voice. As many of you know, "I am Batman", is a statement heavier than an anchor and deserves to be voiced with the deepest darkest voice which I believed he lacks. And after watching the movie I have come to realize that Pattinson is not "Batman". Yes! Because saying Pattinson is batman is a serious understatement, as Pattinson redefined his role and created something else.
Saying Pattinson is batman, is comparing him to someone like Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, and many more. It would be saying that Pattinson is a character the lives within the pages of a comic book, one whose main goal is to run around the city chasing after a psychopath. But this goes way deeper... Pattinson is Vengeance, he is the dark side of batman that Christain Bale, Ben Affleck, and others kept locked in a dark room, hoping it would never see the light. He is the reality of batman that never existed and that's why I approve of him.
The batman movie, just like every other Batman movie before it, sees batman playing a hero in the city of Gotham. But unlike the prior ones, we get to see new faces and villains that only show up In the comics. Like Penguin, Catwoman, and Riddle. What I specifically like about this movie is how it played all its characters to meet real-world expectations. For example, we all know cat woman is a foxy superhero, who has a thing for batman but we don't know anything about her life story. But in the movie, we had a little bit of explanation and exposition on who she is. Penguin and Riddle, on the other hand, piqued my curiosity, I thought it was going to be impossible to make them look real or at the very least believable. But, Matt Reeves who produced the movie redefined them and brought them to reality. And I feel that the simple idea of a cartel and the use of politics to strengthen the movie's narrative proved to be a very positive factor for the movie. And also Batman's strength was displayed in this movie, not as the man with the gadget, or a traumatized kid with a billion-dollar company which he continuously exploits for his crime-fighting gains. But instead, it is displayed as friendship in the person of Commissioner Gordon and the Catwoman, who showed their undying loyalty, trust, and support for the masked vigilante. Although his use of technology is not greatly evaporated as we get to see him do some serious gadget display along the way.

Finally, for a dark night movie (DC movies), I have known to always expect 1-100% of darkness when it comes to cinematography. The constant use of darkness to paint vengeance in the movie is undeniable and fascinating. But what I truly consider brilliant is the camera angle. If you have watched the movie, you'll notice something dynamic, like how sometimes it feels like the characters are looking directly at the camera( and yes they are) but then the angle is changed and we get to see that the characters are staring at someone else. It kinda helps to immerse us into the world of the character just like playing a video game as the main character.
Apart from that, there is also the use of CGI, which I believe is very overly used but the use of blurs in the background helps distract the eyes from its presence. If you ask me, I still feel like the whole film is CGI(ed).
One more thing I love about The Batman is that it pays more attention to the city of Gotham. Unlike the previous installment, Gotham city has not really been explored in such a narrative. We only know what Gotham city is, but in this movie, we dive deeper to know why Gotham city is and How Gotham city is. There is also a bonus exposition on the dark side of Thomas Wayne, which I consider very informative and quite beneficial for this film.
Lastly, I feel the run time of 2hrs59mins is well needed because it allows the story to move at a slow but steady pace, with each detail and character thoroughly explored. I also found some helpful Easter eggs that I feel would be implemented in the next sequel. Like Robin, at the beginning of the movie, Batman Mentioned that he cannot be everywhere at once, in a voice-over shot, where we get to see the streets scum bags, hoodlums, and criminals carrying out their criminal acts until the bat signal fly high in the night sky.
In the scene, I saw a boy who is mixed with the wrong crew, half of his face is painted while the other is not. He is tested by this criminal crew to show his loyalty, but he is reluctant at every moment.
There's also the little kid whose father was murdered by the riddle. These two young fellows truly have the sauce of Robin sprinkled all over them. And I don't doubt that they will be amazing.
In conclusion, Once upon a time, Marvel took to the cinemas with groundbreaking superhero movies rooted deep within reality and out of the comics, now DC is doing the same, only this time, reality becomes the comic. It has truly been a while since I've seen DC do something this remarkable. 💯 Visuals, 💯 story, 💯 cast. As far as I am concerned, Robert Pattinson is not just Batman, He is Vengeance! ...
