Released in the year 2015 "In the heart of the sea" is a film set in the England of 1820, not yet invented electricity and the most profitable business of big cities was the trade of whale oil, which was used as fuel and source of light during the nights. In order to obtain this it was necessary to undertake a trip of several months in whaling boats to hunt as many whales as possible to extract the precious oil, to store it in barrels and to sell it by great amounts of money.

Based on a true story, he tells the story of Owen Chase (Chris Hemsworth), an experienced sailor who makes a living in the whaling business and the bones hanging from his neck give credit to his extensive experience. It is winter, the shipment of the "Essex" is prepared for the whale season but Owen Chase will not be the captain this time, traveling under the erroneous orders of George Pollard Jr. (Benjamin Walker) who is the shipowner's son and the the most important merchant in the city.

The captain's inexperience and his misleading dictions lead him into discord with Owen, the ship is diverted from its route to look for an area which they say has the largest number of whales ever seen. The Essex is struck by an enraged white whale of thirty meters, repeatedly beaten to sink it, the few survivors remained in a boat on the high seas for ninety-five days in which to remain alive committed atrocious acts (I will not give spoiler details).

The shipwreck of the Essex was inspiration for several literary works like Moby-Dick, Mocha Dick, Ann Alexander, Island Hederson, Island Ducie, this film production, among others. She received four BFTA awards and was nominated for two Golden Globes, is a worthy representative of the genre drama and adventure, has very good special effects and sound, will keep you with your eyes wide open.
