Don't Worry Darling | Film Review [ESP - ENG]

Mucho se ha hablado sobre esta película, toda la grabación y la post producción hasta su estreno estuvo envuelta en chismes de infidelidades, amores no correspondidos, niñeras que fueron testigos de actitudes no tan conservadoras de sus empleadores, traiciones, peleas entre chicas, escupitajos en el Festival de Venecia, en fin, nada de esto es sobre la película, pero vaya que causó una enorme curiosidad, por lo menos en mi caso, hacia esta película de 2022. Todos quienes sentimos este deseo de verla nos sentimos un poco defraudados cuando por fin la vimos. Los chismes estuvieron más tiempo en revistas y periódicos que Don't Worry Darling en las carteleras de cine.

Dueña de una estética que le favorece pero a la que ya estamos acostumbrados (y no representa ninguna novedad) y con un guion un poco predecible y fatigado por el uso (ya hemos conocido su premisa, o su mezclas de premisas en otras producciones) Don't Worry Darling nos trae un revoltillo de géneros y extractos de otras películas sin que llegue a ser ninguna de ellas.

Un poco aburrida por lo lenta, pero no es lentitud lo que más le corroe, es la falta del mensaje, mucho se ha hablado de poderoso mensaje feminista que aporta la película, ese mensaje yo no lo encontré, está bien, es verdad que (al igual que en The Stepford Wives) las mujeres de Don't Worry Darling viven sumidas en un mundo que parece perfecto y se les exige a ellas perfección, y aunque la protagonista (Florence Pugh) parece no estar a gusto con su situación, no parece desarrollar su personaje hasta la búsqueda de una verdad secuestrada, sino por un sentimiento de culpa que la lleva a querer descubrir la intriga detrás de esa perfección.

Much has been said about this film, all the filming and post production until its release was wrapped in gossip of infidelities, unrequited love, nannies who witnessed not so conservative attitudes of their employers, betrayals, fights between girls, spitting at the Venice Film Festival, in short, none of this is about the film, but wow it caused a huge curiosity, at least in my case, towards this film of 2022. All of us who felt this desire to see it were a bit disappointed when we finally saw it. The gossip was longer in magazines and newspapers than Don't Worry Darling was in the movie theaters.

It has an aesthetics that suits it but to which we are already accustomed (and does not represent any novelty) and with a script a little predictable and tired by use (we have already known its premise, or its mixture of premises in other productions) Don't Worry Darling brings us a jumble of genres and excerpts from other films without becoming any of them.

A bit boring because of its slowness, but it is not slowness what corrodes it the most, it is the lack of message, much has been said about the powerful feminist message that the film brings, I did not find that message, it is true that (as in The Stepford Wives) the women of Don't Worry Darling live immersed in a world that seems perfect and perfection is demanded of them, and although the protagonist (Florence Pugh) does not seem to be at ease with her situation, she does not seem to develop her character to the search for a sequestered truth, but out of a sense of guilt that leads her to want to discover the intrigue behind that perfection.

Si, se nota la crítica feminista que pretende dar, pero es tan ingenua su premisa, que aburre, en lugar de hablar de estado patriarcal y como este controla a las mujeres, pudieron haber creado una alegoría un poco más siniestra de lo que significa ese control ejercido sobre las mujeres, muchos de estos estos controles para desapercibidos en la realidad ¿por qué hablar de esto, de una manera tan caricaturizada que parece querer desmentirlo o crear una mofa?

El vestuario me pareció genial, amé todas las siluetas que evocaban a los años 50's de manera colorida y fresca y no tan acartonada como pretenden hacer parecer esta década en otras producciones cinematográficas, el problema es que este recurso lo hemos visto tanto últimamente que no parece original, ni siquiera parece una película, más bien un episodio de WandaVision, donde el poder lo posee un domo y no nuestra adorable Escarlata.

Instead of talking about the patriarchal state and how it controls women, they could have created a more sinister allegory of what this control over women means, many of these controls go unnoticed in reality, why talk about it in such a caricatured way that seems to want to deny it or create a mockery?

The costumes seemed great to me, I loved all the silhouettes that evoked the 50's in a colorful and fresh way and not as stiff as they try to make this decade seem in other film productions, the problem is that we have seen this resource so much lately that it does not seem original, it does not even seem like a movie, rather an episode of WandaVision, where the power is held by a dome and not by our lovely Scarlet.

La única actuación aceptable es la de Florence Pugh, de resto todos los actores estaban como parados sobre la marca esperando decir sus líneas, y no como parte de un todo que se mueve orgánicamente para dar lugar a una escena (como la vida real) lo que remarca el carácter caricaturesco de toda la película. Olivia Wilde no supo dirigirse a ella misma, y en ciertas escenas parecería una muñeca vacía tratando de recordar su parlamento, y no, ese vacío no era parte de su personaje, pues conocía perfectamente la intriga detrás de la trama, era cómplice de los hechos.

También descubrí que Harry Styles no es tan atractivo como nos lo quieren vender, y no aporta nada a su personaje, es solo un cliché más en una película plagada de clichés y lugares comunes, que busca copiar no solo la sinopsis de otras películas, también su estética y que además tiene un final tan flojo como las actuaciones de sus actores.

The only acceptable performance is that of Florence Pugh, otherwise all the actors were standing on the mark waiting to say their lines, and not as part of a whole that moves organically to give rise to a scene (like real life) which underlines the caricatured character of the whole film. Olivia Wilde did not know how to address herself, and in certain scenes she would look like an empty doll trying to remember her speech, and no, that emptiness was not part of her character, as she knew perfectly well the intrigue behind the plot, she was an accomplice of the facts.

I also discovered that Harry Styles is not as attractive as they want to sell him to us, and does not contribute anything to his character, he is just another cliché in a film full of clichés and common places, which seeks to copy not only the synopsis of other films, but also their aesthetics, and which also has an ending as weak as the performances of its actors.

Una película luminosa, con decorados que evocan el estilo californiano vanguardista, como pueden ver en este link, pero que se dejó caer en el vacío de no entender que quería decir, y que todos los rumores y el drama de su filmación superaron notablemente la ficción. Muchas otras contradicciones bañan esta película, porque en el mensaje está el secreto, pero también los elementos con los que construyes este mensaje. No podemos hablar de frío mientras sentimos un calor abrazador.

Te recomiendo que la veas, pero no que lo hagas como una prioridad en tu vida, sino para ver si entre todos podemos entender los fallos de guion, soy de ese tipo de persona que se deja llevar por los acontecimientos de las películas, y hasta puedo llegar a aceptar algunas incongruencias del guion si me lo presentan de una manera en que me pueda dejar envolver en esa atmósfera y dejarme engañar por los guionistas, considero que no siempre hace falta entender todos los pliegues de una película, pero, en una película que basa su éxito en esos pliegues, no puedes lanzar premisas ilógicas o dejar preguntas sin responder.

A luminous film, with sets that evoke the avant-garde Californian style, as you can see in this link, but that was left to fall into the void of not understanding what it wanted to say, and that all the rumors and drama of its filming significantly outweighed the fiction. Many other contradictions bathe this film, because in the message is the secret, but also the elements with which you build this message. We cannot talk about cold while we feel an embracing warmth.

I recommend you to see it, but not that you do it as a priority in your life, but to see if between all of us we can understand the script flaws, I'm that kind of person who gets carried away by the events of the movies, and I can even accept some incongruities of the script if it is presented to me in a way that I can get involved in that atmosphere and let myself be fooled by the screenwriters, I believe that it is not always necessary to understand all the folds of a film, but in a film that bases its success on those folds, you can not throw illogical premises or leave unanswered questions.
