Puede ser que la estética edulcorada y pastel de esta serie estadounidense le otorgue un aspecto que podríamos considerar de mal gusto, o de ser un bodrio sin sentido, pero nada más alejado de la verdad, lo cierto es que nos pasea por varios conceptos sobre la verdad, la ética y la vida, que seguro ayudarán a más de uno.

La serie retrata la vida, mejor dicho la muerte de Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell) cuando llega al paraíso (El lugar bueno/ The Good Place) a vivir la felicidad eterna, allí es recibida por el gran arquitecto Williams (Ted Danson) que le muestra el lugar y le ofrece la ayuda de su asistente la simpática y fabulosa Janet (D'Arcy Carden), una especie de robot con inteligencia artificial con acceso a todo el conocimiento del mundo. Apenas al finalizar el primer capítulo nos ofrecen el primer giro de la trama, hubo un error y Eleanor no debería estar allí, pues no es la buena persona a la que se refiere Williams, nuestro dulce arquitecto, más bien es una egoísta y mentirosa mujer que hizo daño a todos los que le rodeaban mientras vivió.

It may be that the sweetened and pastel aesthetics of this American series give it an aspect that could be considered bad taste, or of being a nonsense, but nothing could be further from the truth, the truth is that it takes us through several concepts about truth, ethics and life, which will surely help more than one.

The series portrays the life, or rather the death of Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell) when she arrives in paradise (The Good Place) to live eternal happiness, where she is received by the great architect Williams (Ted Danson) who shows her the place and offers her the help of his assistant, the nice and fabulous Janet (D'Arcy Carden), a kind of robot with artificial intelligence with access to all the knowledge of the world. Just at the end of the first chapter we are offered the first plot twist, there was a mistake and Eleanor should not be there, because she is not the good person Williams, our sweet architect, refers to, rather she is a selfish and lying woman who hurt everyone around her while she was alive.

Al parecer, el alma gemela existe y si no lo encontraste en vida, la eternidad te ofrece la oportunidad de compartir junto a esa persona la eternidad. Así van apareciendo más personajes encantadores, el alma gemela de Eleanor es Chidi Anagonye (William Jackson Harper) un estudioso de la moral, la ética y la filosofía, que desaprueba el relajado comportamiento de su gemela en el paraíso.

También cuenta con las actuaciones de Jameela Jamil como la estirada y presumida Tahani Al-Jamil, y Manny Jacinto como Jason Mendoza (o Jianyu), un monje budista con un voto de silencio, cerrando así un reparto que hace de las delicias para el espectador en El lugar bueno.

Todos los personajes está muy bien caracterizados y ofrecen actuaciones notables, además cuentan con un guion muy bien escrito que les da forma y nunca pierden sus valores.

As more charming characters appear, Eleanor's soul mate is Chidi Anagonye (William Jackson Harper) a scholar of morals, ethics and philosophy, who disapproves of his twin's laid-back behavior in paradise.

It also features performances by Jameela Jamil as the uptight and snooty Tahani Al-Jamil, and Manny Jacinto as Jason Mendoza (or Jianyu), a Buddhist monk with a vow of silence, closing out a cast that delights the viewer in The Good Place.

All the characters are very well characterized and offer remarkable performances, in addition to a well-written script that gives them shape and never loses their values.

Nuestra protagonista, una mujer mundana, se expresa con groserías, por lo que cuando el sistema, ya saben, el paraíso las cambia, y se siente muy frustrada al no poder expresarse como suele hacerlo. Esta serie no usa los lugares comunes que otras series de televisión usan para dejar un mensaje positivo, y muy por el contrario se jacta en descolocarnos para que el mensaje llegue más eficazmente, podemos sentirnos agradecidos, ya que considera al espectador una persona pensante. Más de un giro radical en la trama nos espera, son tantos que apenas en el primer capítulo nos lanza el primero.

Lástima que por la traducción, los hispanos no podamos captar algunos guiños en la trama, por ejemplo, la frase que dice Eleanor en la captura anterior —What the fork?, una horrible grosería, pero que el cielo traduce como —Qué tenedor? En un momento en que las acciones de la protagonista ponen al paraíso de cabeza y comienzan a volar camarones y caer toda clases de objetos del cielo, uno de esos objetos es precisamente un tenedor gigante.

Pero sin duda lo más interesante fue encontrar todas esas referencias filosóficas (Immanuel Kant con su libro La metafísica de la moral) con la que que Chidi Anagonye trata de hacer que Eleanor se vuelva buena persona y se gane su lugar en el buen lugar, algo que parece casi imposible, Platón, Aristóteles le siguen con sus reflexiones sobre la estética de la verdad, y como lo bueno pasa a ser hermoso para la vida y, lo más importante, como llevarlo a la práctica. Recomendado para todos los mentirosos compulsivos. Van a encontrar la más divertida clase de filosofía y ética, me habría gustado verla cuando hacía mis estudios de Ética y filosofía en la universidad.

The Good Place tiene una estética muy cuidada, su brillo y sus colores pasteles ofrecen una imagen muy agradable de ver, incluso cuando comienza a volverse oscura, o cuando nos presentan los recuerdos de la vida malévola y frívola de Eleanor en la tierra.

Our protagonist, a worldly woman, expresses herself with rude words, so when the system, you know, paradise changes them, and she feels very frustrated at not being able to express herself as she usually does. This series does not use the commonplaces that other television series use to leave a positive message, and on the contrary, it boasts in unsettling us so that the message arrives more effectively, we can feel grateful, since it considers the viewer a thinking person. More than one radical twist in the plot awaits us, there are so many that only in the first chapter it throws the first one at us.

Too bad that because of the translation, Hispanics cannot catch some winks in the plot, for example, the phrase that Eleanor says in the previous capture -What the fork?, a horrible rudeness, but that Heaven translates as -What fork? At a moment when the protagonist's actions turn paradise upside down and shrimp start flying and all kinds of objects start falling from the sky, one of those objects is precisely a giant fork.

But undoubtedly the most interesting thing was to find all those philosophical references (Immanuel Kant with his book The Metaphysics of Morals) with which Chidi Anagonye tries to make Eleanor become a good person and earn her place in the good place, something that seems almost impossible, Plato, Aristotle follow him with their reflections on the aesthetics of truth, and how the good becomes beautiful for life and, most importantly, how to put it into practice. Recommended for all compulsive liars. You are going to find the funniest lecture on philosophy and ethics, I would have loved to watch it when I was doing my Ethics and Philosophy studies in college.

The Good Place has a very neat aesthetic, its brightness and pastel colors offer a very pleasant image to watch, even when it starts to turn dark, or when we are presented with memories of Eleanor's malevolent and frivolous life on earth.

El lugar bueno nos ofrece situaciones incomparables tratadas de una manera inteligente y mordaz, con personajes carismáticos por los que seguro apostaremos y con una estética limpia y moderna de lo que podríamos considerar el paraíso o en menor caso, el purgatorio, una serie que recomiendo por alejarse de clichés y otros pecados mortales de las series de comedia.

The Good Place offers us incomparable situations treated in an intelligent and biting way, with charismatic characters that we will surely bet on and with a clean and modern aesthetic of what we could consider paradise or in a lesser case, purgatory, a series that I recommend for moving away from clichés and other deadly sins of comedy series.
