I was drawn to this movie because I love revenge movies, I'm a fan of Kill Bill, Crank, John Wick and The Transport, I recently saw Gunpowder Milkshake with Karen Gillan and I decided to give this one a chance because I also love Mary Elizabeth Winstead, the eternal Ramona who left us Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
Hola otra vez comunidad, espero que estén bien, pero muy bien, en este post quiero hablarles de “Kate”. Película de venganza que se estrenó el 10 de septiembre de 2021 en la plataforma de Netflix, protagonizada por Mary Elizabeth Winstead con la compañía de la joven Miku Martineau y el veterano Woody Harrelson.
Me llamo la atención esta película porque me gustan mucho las películas de venganza, soy fanático de Kill Bill, Crank, John Wick y The Transporte, recientemente vi Gunpowder Milkshake con Karen Gillan y decidi darle una oportunidad a esta ya que además amo a Mary Elizabeth Winstead, la eterna Ramona que nos dejó Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
This premise, with small variations, we have already seen it before many times, and I think that together with the murder or kidnapping of a loved one is one of the basic premise for a revenge movie. But in this case it is presented in a very attractive way with an excellent photography set in Tokyo, a wonderful Mary Elizabeth Winstead and some very well achieved action sequences and fight choreography. The aesthetics and overall mise-en-scene kept me inside the story and I really enjoyed it.
Kate es una sicario que trabaja para una agencia secreta, fue entrenada desde joven y es altamente letal. En una misión debe matara a un miembro importante de la mafia Yakuza delante de su hija adolecente, Kate al identificarse con la joven falla en su misión, esto causa un tiempo después que Kate desee retirarse y abandonar la organización, la condición para dejarla ir es terminar el trabajo que dejó inconcluso. Kate acepta y al terminar la misión, comienza a sentirse enferma, descubriendo que ha sido envenenada con Polonio – 204, un veneno muy efectivo que la matará en 24 hora.
Esta primicia, con pequeñas variantes, ya la hemos visto ante muchas veces, y es que creo que junto al asesinato o secuestro de un ser amado es una de las primicias básicas para una película de venganza. Pero en este caso está presentado de forma muy atractiva con una excelente fotografía ambientada en Tokio, una maravillosa Mary Elizabeth Winstead y unas muy bien logradas secuencia y coreografía de acción. La estética y la puesta de escena en general me mantuvieron dentro de la historia y ha gustado mucho.
As the story progresses Kate ends up teaming up with Ani, the teenager who months ago caused Kate to fail in her mission, whose father was killed by Kate by order of the Yakusa in an internal power struggle. Ani ends up accompanying Kate on her mission and I must say that the participation of this young girl is great, the chemistry between the two is wonderful and they create a very funny dynamic.
The story in the second half becomes lazy, with predictable twists and plot holes, and focuses mostly on the action, the fights that are still excellent and spectacular action sequences. The negative of the film is that it does not innovate, the movie is very enjoyable and entertaining, but as a storyline it does not offer anything new. Even so, it is a good time watching it and for that reason it is recommended.
A medida que la trama avanza Kate termina haciendo dúo con Ani, la adolecente que meses atrás causó que Kate fallara en su misión, cuyo padre fue asesinado por Kate por orden de los Yakusa en una lucha de poder interno. Ani termina acompañando a Kate en su misión y debo decir que la participación de esta joven es genial, la química entre ambas es una maravilla y crean una dinámica muy divertida.
La historia en la segunda mitad se hace floja, con giros previsibles y agujeros de guion, y se centra más que todo en la acción, la peleas que siguen siendo excelente y las secuencias de acción espectaculares. Lo negativo de la cinta es que esta, no innova, la película es muy disfrutable y entretenida, pero como trama no ofrece nada nuevo. Aun así, se pasa un buen momento viéndola y por tal motivo es recomendable.
In conclusion. Kate is a very visually appealing and entertaining revenge movie, with excellent action sequences and very well done fights. With a simple plot that is not complicated at all and does not strive to innovate, but it makes up for it extraordinarily in the visual and attractive of its frames, the presence of Mary Elizabeth Winstead is imposing and credible, she is made for this type of role. I think these are enough reasons to enjoy this film. In my opinion I rate it with a 7.5 / 10.
En conclusión. Kate es una película de venganza muy atractiva visualmente y muy entretenida, con excelentes secuencias de acción y peleas muy bien logradas. Con una trama simple que no se complica para nada ni se esfuerza en innovar, pero que lo compensa de extraordinariamente en lo visual y atractivo de sus fotogramas, la presencia de Mary Elizabeth Winstead es imponente y creíble, ella está hecha para este tipo de papel. Creo que estos son motivos suficientes para disfrutar de esta película. En mi opinión yo la califico con un 7,5 / 10.
