Finch is a drama film set in the middle of the climate crisis. The ozone layer has been partially destroyed and human beings must protect themselves from solar radiation. This is how Finch, a robotics engineer, shelters himself for ten years in a bunker with his dog "Goodyear".
Their survival depends on finding sources of water and food, which is becoming increasingly scarce. This search is made easier when Finch creates an android named Jeff. However, the main reason for Jeff's existence "will be to take care of the dog". Undoubtedly the dog is man's best friend even in these circumstances, a living being worth preserving until the end.
When Finch realizes that food is scarce and that there are frequent and fierce storms due to climate change, he decides to move to the city of San Francisco. It is there where the adventure of interrelation between human, artificial intelligence and a dog begins.
This film has a script with very simple but thoughtful dialogues at the same time. It shows how controversial man can be, something very difficult to understand even more for an android. The dry and lifeless nature scenery contrasts with Finch's small world built to survive. It is a film that masterfully conveys "the certainty of the uncertain" contradictory isn't it? I would even dare to say that it is a film that plays to test how much an artificial intelligence (android) can learn about the contradictory orders of humans. Is it something human to discern and choose the best path in the face of contradiction?
Finch is a film that I recommend watching for its environmentalist message. Unlike other productions, Finch does not exaggerate with an apocalyptic world but shows the immediate consequences of an imminent climate change. The recreation of the lifeless landscape is not a digital production trick. On the contrary, these are scenarios that are being seen frequently in various parts of the world. Man today coexists with the wild nature that reveals itself in the face of the destruction of its water sources, its clean air, and its vegetation.
Finch is a subtle call to take care of our planet, although I personally believe that we are marching towards its imminent destruction. But far from my pessimistic opinion, Finch teaches you that we cannot waste our time reproaching ourselves for what we have not done.
This film shows us that as long as we are alive we must fight tirelessly for what we believe. Finch emphasizes that man's survival instincts and the preservation of life on the planet must be a priority beyond his own individual existence.
