I've always wanted to watch a little more action because this days I've been seeing a lot of animation movies, and it's not like there's no action in animation but I just wanted something a lot more different. So I reached out to a friend who loves movies, dude obviously lives and breathes movies, lol and I asked him to recommend me some good ones.
But sadly I'd already seen most of the ones he recommended especially the 2022 ones, so he had to go back to 2021 and then I was surprised to find out that I hadn't seen The protege. Without wasting time I downloaded the movie and I was a little hyped up after seeing Samuel. L Jackson at the cover, I know it's going to be fun.
I certainly didn't know what to expect because I've not really heard anything about the movie, havn't seen no trailers and havn't seen no reviews. I also told myself that if it was trash, I wouldn't waste 1 hour of my time watching trash, but it wasn't trash at the end, I even had fun watching it.

The movie The Protégé is a action thriller film directed by Martin Campbell and written by Richard Wenk. It was released by Lionsgate on August 20, 2021 and runs for 109 minutes.
It stars Maggie Q as Anna Dutton, Michael Keaton as Michael Rembrandt Samuel L. Jackson as Moody Dutton and in supporting roles it features Patrick Malahide, David Rintoul, Ori Pfeffer, Ray Fearon, Caroline Loncq, and Robert Patrick.
Plot
The movie tells the story of Anna who was rescued as a child after she was kidnapped by four criminals. She was raised to become an assassin by her rescuer Moody and they both become family. He teaches her all his techniques and she learns them pretty well.
They even go on to handle high profile assassinations together. After celebrating his 70th birthday, Moody makes Anna owner of the rare book shop he used to own and even takes her to his secret hideout where he informs her of an individual he's been searching for, for a while now. He hands over the search to her and tells her it's highly confidential.
Then she gets a weird visit from a guy looking for a rare book. They converse and he gives her his number to call him. She goes back home to find out that their house has been broken into and Moody has been killed along with everyone she came in contact with in trying to find that individual.
Everything turns upside down for Anna as she's also attacked in her book shop in a drive by. She escapes unharmed and vows to seek vengeance on whoever was responsible for Moody's death. She goes through a series of challenges in her quest to know who was responsible for giving the order. Would she be able to take revenge?, You'll have to watch it to find out.
I'll be talking about some of the characters in the movie, the main ones actually
Anna Dutton
Haunted by her past, she's lived a life that not too happy. Even if she has the love of the one who rescues her and takes care of her, she still can't forget the gruesome killing of her family. Matters gets worse when she finds Moody lying dead in the bathroom, every cell in her screams revenge.
I like what they did with this character, she's skilled and graceful. Driven by vengeance and hatred, she's a force to recon with but they didn't fail to show her weakness, she's still one scared little girl no matter how much she tries to hide it behind the tough demeanor. Anna is scared that she isn't capable of love and this moves into taking some decisions, very drastic ones at the end.
Michael Rembrandt
He finds himself intrigued by the one woman she should be trying every way to stop. As a trained and skilled killer himself, he should be heartless but he isn't, he just wants to understand what drives such a beautiful girl like Anna. He's not free of his mind games himself and I don't know whether to classify as the antagonist because he actually was more driven by passion, hehe.
He adds intrigued to the movie, always one step ahead and seems to always have everything under control, he's the ideal villian even though he's not outrightly a villian.
Moody Dutton
For someone who's lived all his life killing people who deserved it, he didn't ever think that he'll grow to love someone and teach her every thing he knows. He's haunted by his past, he was paid to kill someone and since then he's always wanted to make things right and when he goes back to enquire and fix things, he gets killed.
As always Samuel L. Jackson plays this role perfectly, cunning and unpredictable. He's always had this sense of humor that knocks you off the serious fence, haha, I'm sure this character was worth being added to the list.
Favourite scene
Well, I have a lot of favorite scenes, especially starting from the beginning where Anna comes face to face with a Drug Lord, it's funny how she kills him and Moody kept asking if she didn't come out with any money, hehe. Another scene that got me laughing was her encounter with Michael after she'd killed the other guy. This scene was supposed to be a fighting scene but it ended up being Something else, hehe.
My general Take on the movie
It's an enjoyable one and even though it's supposed to be an action thriller it was still full of humor and that actually made it quite enjoyable. Samuel L. Jackson always effortlessly owns the role and does wonders with it. The fighting scenes were well choreographed and it didn't seem all too unreal.
I didn't actually like the ending of the movie though, because I was expecting a happy ending but I'm sure the writers thought it would have been too predictable so they decided to add their mix. I still enjoyed the story, and everything still centered on one lesson, whatever you do will still come back to hunt you.
You can decide to do good, or do bad, just know you're sowing a seed that'll surely germinate in the future, you can never escape your past no matter how much you try to bury it and also everyone is still capable of love no matter how heartless they may seem. I'll rate it a 7 out of ten.

Siempre he querido ver un poco más de acción porque estos días he estado viendo muchas películas de animación, y no es que no haya acción en la animación, pero quería algo mucho más diferente. Así que me puse en contacto con un amigo al que le encanta el cine, obviamente vive y respira películas, lol y le pedí que me recomendara algunas buenas.
Pero lamentablemente ya había visto la mayoría de las que me recomendó sobre todo las del 2022, así que tuvo que volver al 2021 y entonces me sorprendí al ver que no había visto El protegido. Sin perder tiempo me descargué la película y me emocioné un poco después de ver a Samuel. L Jackson en la portada, sé que va a ser divertido.
Ciertamente no sabía qué esperar porque realmente no he oído nada sobre la película, no he visto ningún tráiler y no he visto ninguna crítica. También me dije que si era basura, no perdería 1 hora de mi tiempo viendo basura, pero al final no era basura, incluso me divertí viéndola.

Argumento

Incluso llegan a realizar asesinatos de alto nivel juntos. Después de celebrar su 70 cumpleaños, Moody hace a Anna dueña de la tienda de libros raros que poseía e incluso la lleva a su escondite secreto donde le informa de un individuo que ha estado buscando, desde hace tiempo. Le entrega la búsqueda y le dice que es altamente confidencial.
Entonces recibe la extraña visita de un tipo que busca un libro raro. Conversan y él le da su número para que le llame. Cuando regresa a su casa, descubre que han entrado en ella y que Moody ha sido asesinado junto con todas las personas con las que ha estado en contacto al intentar encontrar a ese individuo.
Todo se vuelve del revés para Anna cuando también es atacada en su librería en un asalto. Sale ilesa y jura buscar venganza contra el responsable de la muerte de Moody. Anna Dutton
Perseguida por su pasado, ha vivido una vida no demasiado feliz. Aunque cuenta con el amor de quien la rescata y cuida, no puede olvidar el espantoso asesinato de su familia. Las cosas empeoran cuando encuentra a Moody muerto en el baño, cada célula de ella grita venganza.
Me gusta lo que han hecho con este personaje, es hábil y elegante. Impulsada por la venganza y el odio, es una fuerza con la que reconciliarse, pero no dejaron de mostrar su debilidad, sigue siendo una niña asustada por mucho que intente ocultarlo detrás de la conducta dura. Anna tiene miedo de no ser capaz de amar y esto la lleva a tomar algunas decisiones, muy drásticas al final.
Michael Rembrandt
Se encuentra intrigado por la única mujer a la que debería intentar detener por todos los medios. Siendo él mismo un asesino entrenado y hábil, debería ser despiadado pero no lo es, sólo quiere entender qué es lo que mueve a una chica tan hermosa como Anna. Él mismo no se libra de sus juegos mentales y no sé si clasificarlo como el antagonista porque en realidad le mueve más la pasión, jeje.
Aporta intriga a la película, siempre va un paso por delante y parece tener siempre todo bajo control, es el villano ideal aunque no sea directamente un villano.
Moody Dutton
Para alguien que ha vivido toda su vida matando a gente que se lo merecía, nunca pensó que llegaría a amar a alguien y enseñarle todo lo que sabe. Le persigue su pasado, le pagaron por matar a alguien y desde entonces siempre ha querido arreglar las cosas y cuando vuelve a investigar y arreglar las cosas, le matan.
Como siempre, Samuel L. Jackson interpreta perfectamente este papel, astuto e imprevisible. Siempre ha tenido ese sentido del humor que te saca de la valla de la seriedad, jaja, seguro que este personaje merecía ser añadido a la lista.
Escena favorita
Bueno, tengo muchas escenas favoritas, sobre todo empezando por el principio en el que Anna se encuentra cara a cara con un Señor de la Droga, es gracioso como lo mata y Moody se queda preguntando si no salió con dinero, jeje. Otra escena que me hizo reír fue su encuentro con Michael después de haber matado al otro tipo. Esta escena se suponía que iba a ser una escena de pelea pero terminó siendo Otra cosa, jeje.
Mi opinión general sobre la película
Es una película disfrutable y aunque se supone que es un thriller de acción estaba llena de humor y eso realmente la hizo bastante disfrutable. Samuel L. Jackson siempre se adueña del papel sin esfuerzo y hace maravillas con él. Las escenas de lucha estaban bien coreografiadas y no parecían demasiado irreales.
Sin embargo, no me gustó el final de la película, porque esperaba un final feliz, pero estoy seguro de que los guionistas pensaron que habría sido demasiado predecible y decidieron añadir su mezcla. Aun así, disfruté de la historia, y todo seguía centrado en una lección: lo que hagas volverá a perseguirte.
Puedes decidir hacer el bien, o hacer el mal, solo tienes que saber que estás sembrando una semilla que seguramente germinará en el futuro, nunca puedes escapar de tu pasado por mucho que intentes enterrarlo y también todo el mundo sigue siendo capaz de amar por muy desalmados que parezcan. Lo califico con un 7 sobre 10.
