When ghosts appear, from the mouth of Cole goes foggy. The explanation given by M. Night Shyamalan that we did not see fog in Cole's mouth when he was with Malcolm, is that this only happened with angry or suffering "ghosts".

The primitive story included a serial killer and Cole spoke with his victims. In the end, the script was focusing on the boy and the killer disappeared from the movie.
The film premiered at E.E.U.U. On August 6, 1999, that day M. Night Shyamalan was 29 years old.
It is one of the only 4 horror films that have been proposed at the Oscars as best film. The others were: The exorcist, Jaws and the Silence of the lambs.
When Cole says the famous phrase "I see dead people," the camera focuses directly on Bruce Willis. Shyamalan was about to eliminate it because he thought he could give the viewer a clue. After the test viewings, he found that it was not like that and the scene remained.
