The slogan wasn't wrong though, this movie has quite a number of pros and cons. Mostly in the area that involves writing, chemistry, actors performances, jokes, plot twist, and direction. But if you're the type who likes to turn their brain off and watch something that gives a good time without feeling like it could be better spent elsewhere, then yeah, this is the movie you could check out.

Watching this movie, I couldn't help point the movie inspirations and references it took from multiple movies and maybe video games. Like Indiana Jones, National Treasure, and The Uncharted games. While they do pay respected nodes to those references, they sure haven't done a good job of making something based around them. Anything good in fact.

This movie feels like it is all over the place, especially the bad CGI and average stunt sequences. It doesn't even have a good plot to go with, characters you could believe in if the story was good to start with, but no that isn't entirely the case here. I felt like out of the 3, Ryan Reynolds kept me more interested in watching this, because his humor hit me much better than the rest did.

That's not to say you can't enjoy the film entirely in your own right, for a popcorn flick, it works, for a movie that you'll start taking things a bit more seriously, you're going to be sorely disappointed.

Before it got to production, the movie went through a large bidding war, developed by Dwayne Johnson, and Rawson Marshall Thurber, the director of the film. After the bidding war was won by both Legendary and Universal Studios, the film underwent shooting right away. Though, only to be halted by the pandemic. Since then, the movie has been stuck in limbo.

All 3 of the casts were chosen before then, and afterward, the movie shooting was canceled since it wasn't possible to shoot in 2020 midst of the outbreak. By September 2020, with principal being done, production resumed, with the casts finishing up, post-production wrapped up once the shooting ended. With an overall estimation of 200 million USD in costs for the entire production.

The Plot

The film begins in Rome where FBI Criminal Profiler, John Hartley, and Interpol Agent, Urvashi Das are tasked to bring down a notorious thief, named Nolan Booth. Upon catching him, Hartley was set up by the informant, Bishop who later erased Hartley's record and now put both Booth and him in a Russian prison. The two form a plan to escape and catch her.

And thus ensues the silly adventure of both cop and robber to catch a high profile robber. As time is of the essence for the two to capture the thief and find all 3 golden eggs of Cleopatra.

So where do I even begin about this movie? The cheesy visual segment of cars parking in front of the Mausoleum looked like it was shot entirely on cheap CGI. It looked terrible, from that point on, I had my doubts instilled on the movie. Yet, the film proceeded more and more to embrace its rather cheesy nature. Very cheesy I would say.

Like it was kind of derivative with how everything went, it wasn't until the scene when both Booth played by Reynolds and Hartley played by Johnson both got locked up by Gadot that the film showed its funny side. Mostly from Johnson and Reynold's chemistry in the film. The comedy bits of course are all led by Reynold himself, after his roles in Deadpool, he has seemingly gone in none stop being the thief with the mouth now.

Making puns, sardonic jokes, sarcastic one-liners, and a lot more of the entire package. While Johnson's performance here feels a bit stiff at times, thanks to his other male partner is where he really shines. It's a buddy romcom movie where they go to stop the mastermind behind their demise.

Speaking of, am not really convinced yet that Gal Gadot would make a good villain. At least she tried, you can tell she was having with the movie. She keeps the appearance of a femme fatale villainess who will go through whatever lengths to get what she wants. Even if she plays her role in the most cheesy, caricature type as possible.

Ok, what else? The CGI was weak at parts, the film felt like it was taking ideas from other movies and games, the story was kind of ok, up until the sudden plot twist which was also ok but just also felt weirdly placed for some reason. This plot twist changes up a lot of things, but it was done in a pretty abrupt fashion, did leave a bad taste in my mouth.

This movie can be fun, because of the chemistry the two male leads have. The female lead could have maybe done a better job playing the villain, but am guessing that wouldn't work in a movie like this that is clearly not taking anything seriously.

It's slap fest, but one if you can deal with, can find things to enjoy. I had a few good laughs, that's mostly thanks to Ryan Reynolds, but overall, yeah I'll probably forget this film existed afterwards.
