Alan Turing was a mathematician, computer scientist, logician, cryptanalyst, and philosopher who was hugely influential in the development of theoretical computer science, providing a formal formulation of the concepts of algorithm and computing using a Turing machine, which can be considered among the first models of computers as they are today. Turing is widely regarded as the “father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence.” But after discovering his homosexuality, he was marginalized, ostracized, and sentenced to chemical castration!
