From the moment it started, the covid-19 pandemic has been a nightmare for many. We know that nightmares are short-lived (until we wake up), but there was a contrary situation; it unexpectedly lasted for years and still continues!
From the moment it started until today, many aspects of the pandemic have remained in the dark. Time is the most effective weapon in revealing everything, but how much the covid process can be enlightened; it is an enigma!
The measures taken by each country in its own way have often provoked a backlash, for some; the restrictions were one of the biggest blows to freedom! For others, the measures taken were insufficient!
Considering the millions of people who were lost, we have lived through a time in human history that will never be forgotten and will go down in history.
When I look back, the process flashes before my eyes like a movie frame. I have no difficulty in remembering it because it is still fresh in my memory.
Released in 2021, the UK-made film Help, which was released in theaters in 2021, is one of the successful productions that draws attention to the deficiency in the field of health and questioning the decisions of those in positions of authority through what happened in the elderly care home in Liverpool, England during the covid-19 process.
The film cannot be expected to illuminate the whole process, but it was enlightening in terms of its effects on the elderly and chronically ill, who were primarily targeted by the covid-19 outbreak, and how they were overlooked, despite being the primary audience to be affected by the outbreak.
Help is a cry for help. Considering the process, the elderly and the chronically ill, I liked the title of the movie in terms of helplessness.
From the moment the covid-19 virus reaches the elderly care home; the quarantine of other employees, the alternating illnesses of the elderly and those with chronic diseases, and the successful acting of Sarah (played by Jodie Comer), who has to go through this process alone day and night, was enjoyable to watch in terms of showing the sacrifices and stances of healthcare workers.
Both the process and the point of view in the movie; it is possible to observe that although the world has developed in many aspects, it has not developed enough in the field of health. If the virus had spread faster and had more lethal rates; perhaps we could have experienced the most painful years in human history!
In the last week of 2021 and the first week of 2022, I had the chance to experience the covid-19 disease. Compared to many people around me; I survived the symptoms mildly and recovered, but what I was most worried about during this process was my parents, who have chronic diseases and are over 65 years old. We live in a family apartment, me and my daughter live on the top floor, my older brother lives downstairs and my parents live on the first floor. As soon as my brother and I were infected with covid-19, we were worried about them and took all precautions not to infect them. We are in the last week of 2022 and our precautions have been effective for the past 1 year, since the beginning of the pandemic. They are healthy and have not been infected.
According to the information given at the end of the movie Help, not everyone has the same chance! I recommend you to watch the film, which I find successful in presenting the Covid-19 drama through the elderly and chronic patients in the taste of a documentary but at the same time with the pleasure of watching a movie. While the film reveals the real dramas experienced, it also manages to make you smile with sincere and warm behavior.
If you have a painful experience with the Covid-19 virus; it is impossible not to remember it throughout the movie. Although the ending was not bad; while watching the movie, I instantly went back to 1 year ago and relived the moments when I caught the disease.
I hope we don't have to face similar realities again, and that stories about the human apocalypse are nothing more than fiction in movies.
