American Psycho || The transition of a normal-looking person into an abnormality!

Review by @cute-cactus · 1337d · of American Psycho

I watched a movie that can be considered as one of the masterpieces... The movie was made in 2000 and is called American Psycho.

It tells the story of a psychologically troubled and extremely narcissistic man's struggle full of contradictions between suppressing and revealing his emotions while living a high-class life in his professional and private life.

The desire to kill at night, the unstoppable emotions of a man who finds sexual satisfaction in inflicting pain on his partner overflow into the daytime and take over his entire life, made for a very interesting movie to watch.

It shows the frightening aspect of schizophrenic behavior after the pressure of living the truth too much and having difficulty distinguishing between the real and the unreal after a while.

Christian Bale's performance as Patrick Bateman, a man with a narcissistic attitude and a very different dual personality in one body, was superb. His performance as a serial killer who is a highly successful character in his education and work during the day, and a serial killer who falls prey to his sexual desires and killing instinct at night, is beyond perfect.

I think it would not be wrong to say that humans are the creatures with the most advanced camouflage skills. Moreover, there is no need for physical change to camouflage the personality. Any emotion or thought that is suppressed in the mind and unknown to others is harmless as long as it does not turn into action... but after a while, when it becomes difficult to suppress it and it comes out, the word "horror" becomes inadequate both for others and for oneself.

If we had the chance to know what goes on in the minds of those we normally think of as good people, would we really think that they are good people? The answer remains a meaningless and useless question...

...but when they start to realize what they have in mind - the answer becomes a very important question.

...and the answer causes the victim and the murderer (schizophrenic-narcissist-masochist) to be in the same place at the same time. That's why one side is the victim and the other side is the murderer.

One of the most important side effects of the movie is that it makes us question whether we really know the people we know. For example, a respectable person from any profession who is extremely calm and able to control his anger can turn into an extreme fanatic - someone who has lost himself - someone who sees the opponent as an enemy while watching his favorite team play.

I kept the example simple, but it could be a serial killer.

One of my favorite scenes in American Psycho was the dialog between respected and important businessmen competing for business cards. It was bizarre how they were dealing with the finest details, from the choice of color to the type of writing on the business card. Considering that the movie is set in the 1980s, this would probably not be considered strange, but would be equated with the telephones of today.

The movie should definitely be watched both for the dialogues and for seeing a normal-looking person's transition to abnormality. After watching it, we will definitely observe our surroundings more carefully for a while!
