Closer || The ebb and flow of relationships and its reflections in dialogues

The film Closer, whose director is an award-winning director and award-winning actors, resembling a parade of stars, was made in 2004 and attracts attention as a production belonging to a cast that has received many awards and award nominations.

Making a living writing obituaries sounds pretty interesting. The character Dan (played by Jede Law) from the film Closer does exactly this job, but his dream job is to be a writer. Inspired by the life of Alice (played by Natalie Portman), a character he met in an accident, he writes a book about her. The couple fall in love during the writing and publication of the book. For the cover photo of the book that is ready to be published, Dan goes to the character Anna (played by Julia Roberts), who is a photographer, and falls in love with Anna during the shooting of the pictures. Anna marries Larry (played by Clive Owen), whom she met because of Dan.

The whole plot of the film is about the relationships between these 4. None of them is faithful to their relationship and they cheat on each other in a cross-match. The ebb and flow and contradictions experienced throughout the relationships are reflected in the dialogues and the arguments of the couples make the film gripping.

Considering the names in the cast and director cast, we can naturally meet the high expectations, but we can only see the gripping effect in the dialogues. They shout the ugly face of infidelity at every opportunity and lies between spouses and lovers are flying in the air, so to speak. Strangely, they sometimes choose honesty in relationships and confess their infidelity to each other. In mutual dialogues, they shout the details of the forbidden relationships in their faces as if they hurt each other.

Despite all the ugliness, the 4 cannot fully separate from each other and cannot continue on their way in a way that has solved the problems. During the viewing, you witness the words "I love you" suddenly turn into "I hate you". It arouses curiosity about the direction in which very fragile relationships will continue.

Closer may push the moral boundaries for many people, I say this not for the scenes in the film, but for the dialogues and the distortions in the relationships. It was interesting that a stripper summarizes the difference in how moral the logic of "you can see where you want, but you can't touch me" would be and how much it would separate her from a prostitute with a relationship in exchange for money. It is difficult to distinguish between a prostitute having sex for money and a stripper showing her whole body for money.

For writers, meeting new people and falling in love with someone can provide inspiration for writing. Dan's love affair with Alice, whom he meets by accident, is exactly what inspires the author to write a book about her, and Alice's stripping at the time provides the most important material for the book. A relationship that starts off warm and ordinary gets out of control with the intervening third and fourth parties, leading to unusual events and dialogues. Director Mike Nichols handles the dialogues and out of control events well throughout the film and reflects them well to the audience on the screen.

The strangest scene in the film was when the abandoned husband wanted to be with his wife for the last time to sign the divorce agreement. Choosing to fulfil this request rather than dealing with the court process that will last for years can be seen as an understandable situation, but it is also an issue that will bring many debates.

I can say that the film is gripping in terms of watchability. I must say that I found the reflections and dialogues interesting in the film where relationships are taken as the main theme. You can watch the film, but I have to warn you about some dialogues and slang words. You should be careful with whom you watch the film!
