I think there is no need to explain how much we care about the lives of those we value most in life. We want to protect them and keep them away from all dangers as much as possible during their lives, which we almost equate with our own lives.
For Detective Jack, his niece Ashley has similar qualities and needs special protection. Released in 2019, Don't Let Go is a movie that embodies these two prominent characters.
Before getting into the story and its pros and cons, let's get to know the two characters. David Oyelowa, who skillfully plays the character of Detective Jack and takes on the action aspect of the story with his directions, is the uncle who takes care of his niece Ashley.
Ashley is the character played by Storm Reid, who has troubled parents but tries to make up for their shortcomings with her uncle Detective Jack.
When I focused on the main storyline of Don't Let Go and watched it up to a point, I thought it was going to be sci-fi in terms of someone in the future manipulating someone in the past.
It took me almost halfway through the story to realize I was wrong. The mystery, crime and thriller genre is quite successful, but my mind still hung on the notion that the future-past concept in the story would be better suited to sci-fi.
The character of Ashley was the most important element of the movie even though she was at an age where she could be considered a child actress. Her dialogues with her uncle, whom she contacted over the phone after she was killed, contain the most valuable scenes of the movie.
In fact, the details of the phone conversations between Detective Jack and Ashley make up almost the entire story of the movie. With such a simple setup and the connection of two characters who do not show any variability, the progression of the story is far from boring and the way the characters direct each other is extraordinarily beautiful.
I can recommend watching Don't Let Go and my biggest recommendation to those who will watch it is to focus on the details of the connection between the two characters and their dialogues. I personally enjoyed it quite a lot. Although there are some gaps during the adventure between the beginning and the end, I found it successful, especially in terms of viewing pleasure.
