Who Would You Take to a Deserted Island? (¿A quién te llevarías a una isla desierta?)

Review by @cute-cactus · 851d · of Who Would You Take to a Deserted Island?

Who Would You Take to a Deserted Island? The question is not mine, but of course I have an answer. I wouldn't take anyone. I must have tens or hundreds of reasons of my own for choosing to go to a deserted island. Why would I choose one person from the dry crowd that I already avoid and disturb the peace of the desert island?

The question symbolizes the title of a strange #Spanish movie. The 2019 movie Who Would You Take to a Deserted Island? has a very interesting plot and the movie is strangely bad, but it manages to keep you watching. The movie was mediocre, but I don't want to say it was a waste of time.

Four friends who have been living in the same apartment building with many others for years are spending their last days in the building. It is important for these 4 friends to spend the last night together, as each of them will be scattered to different areas of life. Wanting to spend the last night having fun, getting drunk and reminiscing about the time they spent together, the friends play a game similar to the game of dare among themselves, and with the game, everything gets out of control.

Most of the movie is set in the dialogues of the four friends in the same house. The friends spend one last night to say goodbye, which suddenly turns into a showdown. Since the events that are the subject of the showdown are presented to the audience piece by piece, an incredible sense of curiosity is created and you can't leave the movie even if you don't like it just because of that. I can say that the screenwriter, who preserves the mystery of the story, is more successful than the other people who contributed to the creation of the movie.

I didn't like the performances of the actors and the story progression that didn't contribute anything to the flow of the movie. The reckoning of the characters and the mysterious atmosphere during the reckoning was a bit good, but it was not supported by any additional elements that added extra value to the movie; it was like a snack that tasted good but was difficult to swallow because it was dry.

The character of Marta (played by Maria Pedraza) was the best of the bad performances in the movie. Her behavior both during the goodbye moments and during the showdown was successful as a reflection of her sincere and sincere self.

On the other hand, it was interesting that almost all the showdowns in the movie revolved around him. Because when we look at the story of the movie, she was more in the background. The fact that she experienced a different version of betrayal and learned about it much later caused the character to experience her own drama. She was at the center of a few sad scenes and her only contribution to the movie was her stance in those moments.

At the beginning, the movie looks like a coming-of-age story, but it doesn't progress in that way. The moments of reckoning right after the movie stabilizes were the best moments of the movie. What added the strangeness to the movie were the stories of the 4 characters that were intertwined but they themselves didn't know about it. When they were aware of it, they drove like automobiles each going in a different direction through the intersection divided into 4 different directions.

I leave it to you to decide on the recommendation to watch Who Would You Take to a Deserted Island? The movie doesn't promise much, but the story and the way it was handled was quite different. Maybe those who find something of themselves in what the characters go through will like the movie, but I didn't like it.
