The first thing that caught my attention was its cast, many stars in a movie is likely to be something good, although it is not always fulfilled, as was the case with Don't look up in my opinion.
Me dije que, si iba hacer el esfuerzo de ver algo, hasta que se vuelva habitual nuevamente ver series o películas, debía ser algo que me exigiera en pensamiento, que llamara mi atención, que me pusieran al borde de la silla y me desconectara del mundo, así que empecé la búsqueda. Revise algunos sitios de reseñas, los canales de streaming y nada me provocaba ver, hasta que escuche el audio de un TikTok que mi hijo estaba viendo, donde una persona daba su opinión sobre cierta película. Escuche la palabra “mentalista” y de inmediato le pedí a mi hijo que por favor colocase el TikTok nuevamente, ya que todo lo relacionado con este tema me gusta, porque está asociado al poder de observación, y fue así como supe de Nigthmare Ally. Lo primero que atrapo mi atención fue su elenco, muchas estrellas en una película tiene probabilidad de que sea algo bueno, aunque no siempre se cumple, como fue el caso de Don’t look up según mi opinión.

Lo segundo fue su director Guillermo del Toro, de nacionalidad mexicana que ha sabido llamar la atención y ha ganado buena reputación en Hollywood por su estilo algo dark y controversial, que está muy bien representado en su excelente trabajo en la película The Shape of Water, el que ha sido de su trabajo el que mas me ha gustado hasta ahora, sin embargo, fue director de otras películas muy populares como la saga de Hellboy, El Laberinto del Fauno y Pacific Rim.
Plot

I have done my best not to give any spoilers, because it is a film that I am sure will create very different opinions, because that neo noir style that del Toro prints in this film, makes it quite peculiar keeping you in expectation of what will be the outcome after each scene you see. In my case, it caught my attention because it is about a mentalist, but in the long run it is not the central theme, however, it has some very good twists to which del Toro has already accustomed us.
He hecho todo lo posible por no dar ningún tipo de spoiler, porque es una película que estoy seguro creara opiniones muy diversas, porque ese estilo neo noir que imprime del Toro en esta película, la hace bastante peculiar manteniéndote a la expectativa de cual será el desenlace tras cada escena que vez. En mi caso me llamo mucho la atención por tratarse de un mentalista, pero a la larga no es el tema central, sin embargo, tiene unos giros de tuerca muy bueno a los cuales del Toro ya nos tiene acostumbrados.

Las actuaciones son excelentes, Bradley Cooper el favorito de las féminas, sin duda está en búsqueda del Oscar, tras 8 nominaciones pasadas sin duda lo quiere porque ya desde hace algún tiempo le vemos involucrado en la producción de muchas películas, como en estes caso, como en la pasada y muy aclamada A Star Is Born con Lady Gaga. Su personaje es bastante enigmático, personifica muy bien al hombre que oculta un pasado oscuro y que actúa con frialdad cuando es necesario.
What I loved most about the film is the character of Cate Blanchett as Dr. Lilith Ritter. Lilith Ritter, how not to love the work of this woman, she is one of my favorite actresses, she has left me many times impressed with her performance, from her interpretation as Galadriel in the Hobbit a kind of protective entity, to then see her as a super villain as Hela in Thor Ragnarok, and now as a calculating woman who seems to show weakness but is a superior mind, simply amazing, and I don't know if my judgment is clouded by her beauty, but I love her as an actress.
Lo que mas ame de la película es el personaje de Cate Blanchett como Dra. Lilith Ritter, como no amar el trabajo de esta mujer, es una de mis actrices favoritas, me ha dejado muchas veces impresionado con su desempeño, desde su interpretación como Galadriel en el Hobbit una especie de entidad protectora, para luego verla como una super villana como Hela en Thor Ragnarok, y ahora como una mujer calculadora que parece mostrar debilidad pero es una mente superior, sencillamente increíble, y no se si mi juicio este nublado por su belleza, pero me encanta como actriz.
I ended up watching a movie without knowing that it was nominated for an Oscar, among so many personal challenges I had not noticed. Period films are always a bit enigmatic, and Nigthmare Ally is even more so since it is set in a fair where many strange things are seen. The photography is quite good, it has that touch of sepia color somewhat imperceptible that makes you feel that you are watching something old, although these are details that may be unappealing to most of the public.
Although I really enjoyed certain characters, and the morbid touch of Guillermo del Toro, I felt that I was told the end from the beginning, in fact you start making many guesses of how will be the end of the main character, and you can hit on many things, because the bad guys do not always end well, is something that over time Hollywood has had us used to, however, it is pleasantly surprising the final scene, as a small detail of the beginning of the film is crucial to the point that if you did not pay enough attention, surely you will return to the scene to understand better, it is a twist that left me satisfied, even I got a few applause and a little laugh of those that comes after a: good job!
Termine viendo una película sin saber que estaba nominada a los premios Oscar, entre tantos desafíos personales no me había percatado. Las películas de época siempre son un tanto enigmáticas, y Nigthmare Ally aun mas al estar ambientada en una feria donde se ven muchas cosas extrañas. La fotografía es bastante buena, tiene ese toque de color sepia un tanto imperceptible que te hace sentir que estas viendo algo antiguo, aunque estos son detalles que pueden ser poco atractivos para la mayoría del público. A pesar que disfrute mucho ciertos personajes, y lo mórbido del toque de Guillermo del Toro, sentí que se me contaba el final desde el principio, de hecho empiezas hacer muchas conjeturas de cómo será el final del personaje principal, y puedes atinar en muchas cosas, porque los malvados no siempre acaban bien, es algo que a lo largo del tiempo Hollywood nos ha tenido acostumbrados, sin embargo, es gratamente sorprendente la escena final, como un pequeño detalle del inicio de la película es crucial al punto que si no prestaste la suficiente atención, de seguro regresaras a la escena para entender mejor, es un giro de tuerca que a mi me dejo satisfecho, hasta me saco unos cuantos aplausos y una pequeña risa de esas que viene luego de un: ¡buen trabajo!
