The Guardians Of The Galaxy Tell Tale series is a chose your own adventure game developed in conjunction with Marvel and was a blast to play. I picked up this game on the steam sale and I've enjoyed it immensely. The game focuses on an original adventure(in its own timeline,the characters are a mix of their movie and comic selves) kicking off with the Guardians in a race to stop Thanos from acquiring an ancient artifact of great power( somebody should really hide these things a little better). I've tried a few Tell-Tale games before but this one is the first I've truly enjoyed. It provided a solid 12 hours of enjoyable action and witty banter and I'm thinking of replaying it and going down an alternate path.
First off, the voice actors in this game are great. Everyone really nails the "voice" of their characters and the chemistry they display in the group scenes gives the MCU cast a run for their money. The writing was fantastic and I never got bored through all 5 episodes. A healthy mix of memory flashbacks and action scenes help to move the story forward in a genuinely interesting way and I felt some real emotion at several points in the series. I can't really go into specifics without ruining it so let me just say you should play this game if you have any interest in The Guardians at all. I will also say that some choices feel a little underwhelming but the big choices really make a difference and I can say that they have a more significant impact than some other Tell-Tale titles (specifically Walking Dead and Game Of Thrones).
Next lets talk about the graphics. If you've played a Tell-Tale you know what to expect, serviceable but nothing amazing, though I do have to say some of the set pieces do look very nice and the fights scenes have excellent dynamic animation. Tell Tale won't win any graphical awards ( some of the face rigging can be a little jarring at times), but it doesn't take away from the great characters and story so it really doesn't matter all that much. The soundtrack and licensed music is excellent, as you would expect from a Guardians game. The overall presentation is great, the characters look true to form, and the small details like Peter's Walkman are a nice touch.
To sum it all up I would give Guardians Of The Galaxy: A Tell Tale Series a 4/5. It's a great story and has some fun action moments, and I would highly recommend it even at full price. Here's hoping for a Season 2, come on Tell Tale you did two seasons of Minecraft story mode.
