It’s been 32 years since the first Home Alone movie came out, and the franchise is still as popular as ever. I have to admit, I’ve seen all of the movies and I enjoy them (without the sixth). The franchise, which started in 1990, follows the story of young Kevin McCallister (played by Macaulay Culkin) as he fends off burglars in his home while his family is away for Christmas. While the movies are light-hearted and comedic, they also deal with some serious topics, such as parental neglect, divorce, and even crime.

The first two films in the franchise, "Home Alone" (1990) and "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" (1992), are widely considered to be holiday classics, and are among the highest-grossing live-action comedies of all time.

What I love about the movies is that they’re not afraid to be a little dark and twisted. The humor in these movies comes from the characters being placed in realistically dangerous situations, and watching them scramble to find a way out. It’s this combination of peril and hilarity that makes the films so captivating.

And the cast of each movie is impeccable. Macaulay Culkin is perfectly cast as Kevin McCallister, and he brings an endearing mischievousness to the role. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern are hilarious as the hapless burglars who repeatedly cross paths with Kevin, while Catherine O’Hara is pitch-perfect as his lovably eccentric mother.
