Las películas que parten de una idea sencilla como un vuelo de avión y terminan en medio de un ataque de tiburón, son esa clase de producciones donde el director buscas romper las reglas al presentarnos algo distinto y que puede llegar a ser todo un éxito. Por eso se estrenó En mar abierto con esa idea de quedar atrapado en medio del océano después de un accidente, rodeados de tiburones convirtiendo toda la película en una lucha de supervivencia, de decisiones y sobre todo ver cómo el ser humano no está preparado para una situación cómo está, si llegará a ocurrir en la vida real.
La historia nos presenta a un grupo de personas que consigue sobrevivir a un aterrizaje de emergencia en medio del océano, donde a medida qué pasa van saliendo pequeños detalles que la película se convierta en puro suspenso, miedo ya que uno no sabrá cuándo será el próximo ataque de un tiburón y eso la lleva a preguntarnos ¿Podrán rescatarlos?, ¿Cuánto puede durar una persona sin comer? Y muchas otras cosas que al ver la situación se vuelve desesperante.
Each scene is very well crafted, and since a large part of the movie takes place on the plane, it’s perfect for building tension—there’s nowhere to go, nowhere to hide, just a vast, dark ocean that’s practically impossible to control. Furthermore, as yet another shark movie, it doesn’t try to overcomplicate things—it simply features giant sharks whose sole purpose is to eat, alongside a group of people disturbing their habitat. This is something we’ve seen before, as are situations that can start to feel predictable throughout the film, and that also affects its pacing.
Another aspect that works is that, as each character is focused on a journey that ends up taking them out into the middle of the ocean, they begin to reveal distinct personalities and ways of doing and seeing things—and in the end, each one contributes something. While they aren’t particularly complex characters, they are people who have to make quick decisions when everything starts to go wrong, turning a simple situation into a very complicated one—one where even their lives may be at risk.
Cada escena esta muy bien trabajaba y como gran parte de la película es pedazo del avión es perfectamente para crear tensión, ya que no hay para donde ir, en donde esconder simplemente un océano enorme, oscuro y prácticamente imposible de controlar. Además, al ser otra película de tiburones no busca complicarse demasiado, simplemente colocar grandes tiburones, que lo único que buscan es comer y a la vez un grupo de personas molestando su habitad, algo que ya hemos visto, como también situaciones que pueden llegar ser sentirse predecibles, a lo largo de la película y eso también afecta el ritmo de la misma.
Otra de las cosas que puede llegar a funcionar es que cada uno de los personajes al estar enfocados en un viaje y terminar en medio del mar, cada uno comienza a mostrar personalidades distintas, una formar de hacer y ver las cosas, que a la final cada uno aporta algo. Puesto que no son personajes especialmente complejos, pero sí ante personas que tienen que tomar decisiones rápidas cuando todo comienza a ponerse en contra, transformando algo sencillo a algo muy complicado, que hasta la vida puede estar en riesgos.
This new film, Open Water, is a survival story with familiar elements, but one that still works today simply because it’s about sharks—and not many directors are willing to take a chance on this kind of story. Besides, it’s no secret that being out in the middle of the ocean can quickly turn into a much bigger problem, which is why the movie makes us imagine what we’d do if we were trapped on a plane, surrounded by sharks. Esta nueva producción En mar abierto es una propuesta de supervivencia con elementos que conocemos, pero que todavía en estas fechas sigue funcionando, por el mismo hecho de ser de tiburones y no muchos directores se arriesgan a seguir este tipo de historia. Además, para nadie es un secreto que estar en medio de un océano es fácil y puede convertirse en un problema mucho más grande y por eso la película nos lleva a imaginarnos qué haríamos nosotros si estuviéramos atrapados en un avión, rodeados de tiburones.
