Hola mi gente linda de Movies & TV Shows hoy les quiero compartir una miniserie que vi en Netflix y la cuál no sabía de que se trataba, solo me llamo la atención su título y les hablo de POCO ORTODOXA, realmente es la primera vez que veo una producción donde se aborde desde el punto de vista de una mujer la cultura Judía ortodoxa.
Hello my beautiful people of Movies & TV Shows today I want to share with you a miniseries that I saw on Netflix and which I did not know what it was about, I just called my attention to its title and I'm talking about POCO ORTODOXA, it is really the first time I see a production where the orthodox Jewish culture is addressed from the point of view of a woman.
Es importante destacar que esta historia esta basada en la autobiografía Unorthodox de la vida y experiencia personal de la escritora Debora Feldman quien escapo de su comunidad Judía del barrio de Williamsburg en Nueva York y como lo enfrento, además que todos los capítulos están repletos de flashbacks que nos va contando la historial real de la vida de Debora en este caso Etsy y que nos va haciendo entender poco a poco lo que la llevo a tomar esta importante decisión.
It is important to note that this story is based on the autobiography Unorthodox of the life and personal experience of the writer Debora Feldman who escaped from her Jewish community in the neighborhood of Williamsburg in New York and how she faced it, plus all the chapters are full of flashbacks that will tell us the real history of Debora's life in this case Etsy and that will make us understand little by little what led her to make this important decision.

Una joven chica Judía de 19 años nacida en Nueva York, decide escapar de la comunidad de Judíos Ortodoxos, donde sentía que no encajaba con el resto de los judíos, hija de un padre con problemas de alcohol y una madre que la abandono por sus propias razones, ha vivido emocionalmente una vida bastante dura debido a ello.
A 19 year old Jewish girl born in New York, she decides to escape from the community of Orthodox Jews, where she felt she did not fit in with the rest of the Jews, daughter of a father with alcohol problems and a mother who abandoned her for her own reasons, she has lived emotionally a very hard life because of it.
A los 17 años con un matrimonio arreglado empieza una nueva vida, pero donde con el tiempo se va dando cuenta que no es tan fácil como lo hacen parecer en su comunidad, Etsy siente que no es algo que ella quiere ya que es una chica diferente y no se parece al resto de mujeres judías donde deben someterse a las ordenes de sus maridos.
At 17 with an arranged marriage she starts a new life, but over time she realizes that it is not as easy as they make it seem in her community, Etsy feels that it is not something she wants because she is a different girl and is not like the rest of Jewish women where they must submit to the orders of their husbands.
Luego de aproximadamente 1 año y medio de matrimonio y sintiéndose abrumada por diferentes problemas los cuales no sabía como lidiar, decide planificar su escape a Berlín, pero donde se dará cuenta lo difícil que es el mundo y mucho más cuando no recibiste ni la educación ni los conocimientos de la vida moderna para poder desenvolverte con facilidad dentro de él.
After about a year and a half of marriage and feeling overwhelmed by different problems which she did not know how to deal with, she decides to plan her escape to Berlin, but where she will realize how difficult the world is and even more so when you have neither the education nor the knowledge of modern life to be able to manage easily in it.

Una miniserie que consta de solo 4 capítulos de aproximadamente 50 minutos, con una calidez visual referente a lo que significa la cultura Judía, debo decir que lo único que conocía de los judíos era sobre el Holocausto de Hitler pero nada más allá, nunca había leído o visto algo que hablara sobre su cultura más en detalle.
A miniseries consisting of only 4 chapters of approximately 50 minutes, with a visual warmth concerning what Jewish culture means, I must say that the only thing I knew about the Jews was about Hitler's Holocaust but nothing beyond that, I had never read or seen anything that talked about their culture more in detail.
Aunque la trama de la historia es un poco lenta, ya que es un drama que cuenta la experiencia personal de la escritora deborah en ese momento complicado de su vida, desde que comienza la historia te atrapa con solo conocer a Etsy quien le da vida a través de la actriz Israeli Shira Haas y que para mi fue una actuación tan impecable y magistral que se llevo muchos elogios, la cuál te transmite todo el dolor, el sufrimiento, y la incomodidad que sentía esta chica en su vida matrimonial judía.
Although the plot of the story is a little slow, since it is a drama that tells the personal experience of the writer Deborah in that complicated moment of her life, from the beginning of the story you get caught just by meeting Etsy who gives life to her through the Israeli actress Shira Haas and that for me was such an impeccable and masterful performance that took many compliments, which conveys all the pain, suffering, and discomfort that this girl felt in her Jewish married life.
Esta historia nos abre los ojos a este mundo que poco conocemos, por eso tuve que investigar un poquito sobre el tema para poder entender más a su autora, en POCO ORTODOXA se nos muestra lo que siempre se ha venido hablando de la lucha de las mujeres por conseguir una libertad digna, y que aún hoy en día existen comunidades y culturas donde la mujer no vale nada para la comunidad ni para los hombres.
This story opens our eyes to this world that we know little about, so I had to do a little research on the subject to understand more about the author. POCO ORTODOXA shows us what has always been said about the struggle of women to achieve a dignified freedom, and that even today there are communities and cultures where women are not worth anything for the community or for men.
Y esa será la lucha de Etsy en esta historia, de lo que pude leer me encanto saber que sus directoras cuidaron muy bien los detalles en cuanto a la comunidad de los Judíos donde pertenecía Etsy para que se mostrará realmente como conviven ellos en su cultura, y su vida cotidiana, y estamos hablando de una comunidad de judíos ultra ortodoxo y conservadora que todavía existe en Brooklyn, Nueva York, que se podría decir que son súper estrictos en cuanto a su religión.
And that will be the struggle of Etsy in this story, from what I could read I was delighted to know that its directors took good care of the details regarding the Jewish community where Etsy belonged so that it will really show how they live in their culture, and their daily life, and we are talking about a community of ultra orthodox and conservative Jews that still exists in Brooklyn, New York, which could say that they are super strict about their religion.
Esta comunidad se formo a raíz de judíos que sobrevivieron al holocausto y que trataron de conservar su cultura al máximo posible, por eso cuidaron muy bien su contacto con el mundo moderno y exterior, es decir, realmente son personas que no tienen nada que ver con la tecnología, o educación en especial las mujeres, los hombres viven rezando, y las mujeres se consideran como complacientes de los esposos que tienen que traer bebés al mundo y cuidar de su familia, también conservan su idioma natal el yidis y solo se comunican entre ellos en este idioma por ser una comunidad muy cerrada.
This community was formed as a result of Jews who survived the holocaust and tried to preserve their culture as much as possible, so they took good care of their contact with the modern and outside world, ie, really are people who have nothing to do with technology, or education especially women, men live praying, and women are considered as complacent husbands who have to bring babies into the world and take care of his family, also retain their native language Yiddish and only communicate with each other in this language for being a very closed community.
De verdad llegue a sentir mucha pena por Etsy en su rol como esposa con Yanky, al ver su vida entiendes que para cualquier mujer seria una razón de peso para huir, primero vivía con una presión detrás de ella por parte de la familia de Yanky al no poder quedar embarazada y ser vista como algo que no sirve, sin mencionar que Etsy debido a la poca comunicación que existe entre ellos, no tenia ni idea de lo que eran las relaciones sexuales y aunque a ellas antes del matrimonio las preparan para ser esposas, no fue suficiente para prepararla para ese momento tan incomodo para ella.
I really came to feel sorry for Etsy in her role as a wife with Yanky, when you see her life you understand that for any woman would be a compelling reason to flee, first she lived with a pressure behind her by Yanky's family not being able to get pregnant and being seen as something that does not serve, not to mention that Etsy due to the poor communication between them, had no idea what sex was and although they prepare them before marriage to be wives, it was not enough to prepare her for that moment so uncomfortable for her.
Podríamos estar hablando en este sentido de prácticamente una violación en cuanto a relaciones sexuales se trata, porque si bien ellos se rigen por su religión y el Torá, ellos ven esto como solo un acto para hacer hijos y la verdad quede sorprendida con todos los pasos que toman para poder llevar esa práctica por décadas, es decir, para ellos no es considerado lo que es el placer en la relación sexual o bueno eso es lo que yo entendí de lo que nos quiso transmitir su autora.
We could be talking in this sense of practically a violation in terms of sexual relations, because although they are governed by their religion and the Torah, they see this as just an act to make children and the truth was surprised with all the steps they take to carry out this practice for decades, that is, for them it is not considered what is the pleasure in sexual intercourse or well that's what I understood from what the author wanted to convey to us.
A continuación, un pequeño Spoiler pero es que honestamente me dejó impactada si esto es así en su comunidad y pasa con frecuencia, fue el hecho de que aunque tu no quieras estar físicamente con tu esposo, este por la presión y muchas otras cosas, te termina obligando a estar con él de una forma tan desagradable e incomoda, es como acostarte en la cama y esperar que el sea el único que sienta placer y ya sin importar si te duele o no te duele el acto, de si te gusta o no te gusto. Y que aparte Etsy no haya tenido ni el apoyo moral ni emocional de nadie de su familia y menos de la familia de Yanky porque para ellos ella era la que debía complacerlo y hacerlo sentir como un Rey sin importar como se sentía ella, aunque él no es malo, es tan ingenuo como ella, solo que esta sometido a la presión de la sociedad judía.
Next, a small Spoiler but honestly it left me shocked if this is so in your community and happens frequently, was the fact that although you do not want to be physically with your husband, this by the pressure and many other things, ends up forcing you to be with him in such an unpleasant and uncomfortable way, it's like lying in bed and expect him to be the only one who feels pleasure and no matter if it hurts or not the act hurts, if you like it or not you do not like it. And besides Etsy has had neither moral nor emotional support from anyone in his family and less from Yanky's family because for them she was the one who should please him and make him feel like a king regardless of how she felt, although he is not bad, he is as naive as she is, only that he is under the pressure of Jewish society.
Por esa y muchas otras razones es que Etsy decide huir a Berlín, pero cuando llega allá tampoco es que la vida es color de rosa y es hay cuando se da cuenta lo difícil que es moverse por el mundo sin tener un poquito de educación, es decir, ella salió al mundo sin conocer absolutamente nada, aunque en la película se muestran cosas pocos realistas, hay partes de ellas que son solo ficción para agregar un poco más de enganche en la historia, pero su vida original si es parte de la vivencia de Etsy.
For that and many other reasons is that Etsy decides to flee to Berlin, but when she gets there life is not rosy either and that's when she realizes how difficult it is to move around the world without having a little education, that is, she went out into the world without knowing absolutely nothing, although the film shows unrealistic things, there are parts of them that are just fiction to add a little more hook in the story, but her original life is part of Etsy's experience.
Lo que si es real también es el sufrimiento que es evidente cuando llega a Berlín y se ve completamente sola, sin ayuda de nadie, y aunque tiene a su mamá que vive hay, ella desde hace mucho rato que no acepta a su madre en su vida por el hecho de haberla abandonado, pero obvio teniendo sus razones que en la historia conocerás mejor.
What is also real is the suffering that is evident when she arrives in Berlin and finds herself completely alone, with no help from anyone, and although she has her mother who lives there, she has not accepted her mother in her life for a long time because she has abandoned her, but obviously she has her reasons, which you will learn more about in the story.

Sin duda la historia de POCO ORTODOXA es fuerte y te llega hasta los huesos, porque ¿Qué harías tu si como mujeres estarías en la misma situación? creo que por mi parte ya me habría vuelto loca, porque realmente no me gusta que me impongan cosas. Así que Etsy lo que nos muestra acá es todo lo que tuvo que soportar para poder salir y sobrevivir en un mundo de libertad donde pudiera ser ella misma, y que debo acotar algo importante, ella nunca renegó de su religión, solo decía que Dios realmente esperaba mucho de ella y no podía cumplir con todo lo que se le exigía, porque no existe esa condescendencia en los Judíos Ortodoxos.
Undoubtedly the story of POCO ORTODOXA is strong and touches you to the bone, because what would you do if you as a woman would be in the same situation? I think I would have gone crazy, because I really do not like to be imposed things. So what Etsy shows us here is everything she had to endure to be able to go out and survive in a world of freedom where she could be herself, and I must point out something important, she never denied her religion, she only said that God really expected a lot from her and she could not fulfill everything that was demanded of her, because there is no such condescension in Orthodox Jews.
Realmente la recomiendo sobretodo si nunca has visto nada referente a la cultura Judía, es una historia de fuerza y convicción que te conmueve, la vida de Deborah después de eso en la vida real no fue fácil, ella tuvo que lidiar día y noche con mensajes de parte de su comunidad donde la llamaban Loca, la invitaban a suicidarse solo por haberse liberado y haberse ido de su comunidad a vivir su vida y creo que aún en la actualidad lo sigue viviendo, así que de verdad la admiro por haber tomado una decisión tan difícil sin tener los recursos al inicio para salir adelante.
I really recommend it especially if you have never seen anything related to Jewish culture, it is a story of strength and conviction that moves you, Deborah's life after that in real life was not easy, she had to deal day and night with messages from her community where they called her crazy, they invited her to commit suicide just for breaking free and leaving her community to live her life and I think she is still living it today, so I really admire her for having made such a difficult decision without having the resources at the beginning to get ahead.
